Just curious, but has anyone thought to let the band know about this guy? Seems to me a quick "cease and desist" from the band might just make this jackhole think twice...
Then again...

Here is is in an interview from a while back:

Todd S: How do you feel about people bootlegging your music at live shows. DO you have the Greatful Dead approach where is encouraged or do you feel like you are getting ripped off?
The Tragically Hip: There are two schools of thought. Obviously people who are bootlegging have your records. They just want alternative versions of songs. That's great. One thing that isn't great is people who show up and expect from our soundman a feed from the board or their own line. When it interferes with him and his day of getting everything together to accommodate these people, it might do something to our sound, then we have a problem with it. Some of the bootleggers show up and demand, which is not right. Taping, I am all in favor of it. One guy has made a lot of dough, with commercial boots, and if you open up that can of worms...it is just a way for him to make dough.

I'm on the fence with the commercial bootlegging issue. On the one hand, if there is the demand from people for bootlegs for artists who dont allow taping, then these people are filling a demand. What I have a problem with is some of these commercial bootleggers charging an arm and leg for shows. In my naive days i remember paying 45 bucks for 2 Rush shows, one of which was recorded in somebody's pants pockets. It's also a ripoff of the legit bootleggers and fan groups that some of the commercial people exploit by taking part in trees and turning around and selling it to people who dont know about us.

I think the best point raised there is that people who want bootlegs already have the records. Obviously any collector has paid for the Hip's studio albums, so we are entitled to a profitless concert trading ring. If it's kept profitless, of course...I think I know who Gord was referring to when he mentioned a guy who has made a lot off of bootlegs. I hate him too.

Of course, now you have some music venues putting out shows and charging an arm and a leg for it. I read somewhere that Clear Channel and SFX have teamed up to offer fans of "mainstream" bands copies of shows they go to. Now the problem i have here is the leverage the promoters, radio stations and venues have over the bands. They could conceiveably say to these bands, if you dont agree to us taping and selling your shows and you get a fraction of what they make, they'll refuse to book the bands or promote them on air. Inherent in that policy is the unspoken pressure to sound radio friendly. I dont mean to knock a Canadian band, but has anybody listened to A Simple Plan and Hoobastank and thought how their songs sound very similar?
