Love Is A First

Lizard King Wrote:They should have called it "Love is a Fist", so much better.

Why can't you two just admit that you're in love?

It was a joke, whats your problem "moderator"? First you say the "mean spirited stuff is uncool" to me and Tiger, and now you're taking shots, and you call me a kid?

Get over yourself.

By the way what is a nob???? :?

Too bad were not in the UK then. Although this dictionary sees it differently, http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/nob?qsrc=2888

nob 2 (nŏb) Pronunciation Key
n. Chiefly British Slang
A person of wealth or social standing: "The nobs were forever snubbing the snobs" (Conor Cruise O'Brien).

[Possibly from nob or knob.]

So in North America its Knob we all know that one.

And in the UK Nob is slangily for penis?

Confusing..

Any UK basers care to clear this up??

So from all that Moderator Phil Im going to assume you meant head of a penis, but next time could you spell it "knob" so I know what you mean. We are in N.America after all..

Thanks Moderator.

Sorry for the thread derailment, I was just having fun with the song title since it had a double meaning, I wasnt expecting to get insulted by the Moderator.

The "love is a curse" and "this is as bad as or worse" was also a rant at the end of Bobcaygeon at their London show in 2004-11-17. I've listened to that live performance so many times that I hadn't even made it through 45 secs of my first listen of the new track and immediately recognized it.

I totally agree with the posts here saying it's one of the best studio songs in terms of encompassing their live sound. I think the offbeat lyrics totally contribute to that. Off to a solid start to disc 11.

Although several people have commented that Love is a First captures the live Hip sound, since the first time hearing it I've wondered how they could possibly pull this off live. We'll see if Robby can play those crazy guitar licks. More concerning is the fact that so much of the song features Gord singing over.....Gord! Try to sing along with it and you'll find yourself gasping for breath early in the first chorus.

Clearly, he'll have to sing it differently live. I'm curious how people think the song will be adapted live. Chagrin Falls had the same predicament, and it was solved by Langlois and Sinclair singing some of Downie's parts. But here, there's not even any backup singing on the chorus.

As I see it, Gord could either sing "love is a first" leaving out the in-between bits (this would be a shame, as those parts of the chorus make the song, in my opinion). Or maybe Langlois and Sinclair can sing "love is a first" while Gord takes the other parts in the chorus (eg "felt the dull fangs of the truth"). Either way, I don't see it having the same umph live. It's odd that their first single is impossible to reproduce live, and it'll be interesting to see what they do with it.

Exactly. Will Paul take over for one of those parts during live performances? Anyway you look at it, the first two songs we've heard off of WATS are going to be impossible to duplicate live. The background vocals in Morning Moon are gonna sound way different when the song is performed live.

I find half the fun of seeing a band live is seeing how they portrait a song live. The Hip didn't have as much of an issue with this until the Bob Rock days. I'm really looking forward to hearing how those first two songs are altered for concert.
