Love Is A First - Flamenco - 03-03-2009

A few days ago at 3 AM after many beers and a sleep I had my first listen to LIAF. Cool! And today on CFNY my second listen. Now I'm lookin forward to a third listen !!!

Thoughts?

I am absolutely loving this song!

I was wondering how they would build on WC, and if this is any indication I can't wait for April 7th. Another new sound to the Hip in my opinion.

Me too. As scared to death as I am of what Bob Rock could do to the band it does really seem to be working out. That must be why they asked him to produce this album too.

Wow first listen... and wow... this one came at me sideways - really like it and now Morning Moon... nice. Things will change but first listens compared to past 2 albums... these is a better direction for me... the guitar, Rhythm and vocal harmonies enjoyable for studio versions....

Damm I want the whole album now - I need to listen over and over

My favourite thing about LIAF? The fact that every radio station in Edmonton (except 91.7 the Crap) have it on regular rotation! It's The Hip all the time! DJs are talking about them, and fans are too! This has helped fix my Hip craving for a while!
Can't wait for April 7th, and then bring on the tour.

yeah that's kinda my question -- what's the buzz around the tune like? What are people saying? Is it being played more than a normal hip single?

I remember when In View was released, I DJ played it, and quickly said "That's In View by the tragically hip. Judging by that song, the end of their career is also in view." Let's face it, not a great single. Yer not the ocean was though!

Agreed tth_fan, in fact I heard fearless fred from the bear (who is one cynical SOB) say that this is the first time he has been blown away by a Hip tune in many many years.

I think it's a great song, can't wait to hear the rest, roll on April 7!

Seems the vocal pitch is a little higher to my ear

The Hip have finaly produced a studio track that captures the "live" feel. It does not sound live but it brings the elements of live Hip into the song structure itself. I think Bob Rock was the only guy who could of done it because he is master of the craft. The Hip are among the most experienced musicians on Earth and required someone with the skills to record it and the heart to feel it.

As usual lyrics from rants make good songs in the years to come. Many of the lyrics to this fine new song are quite old, or is it just me. I've heard some of these words before/during/after the song Fully Completely. It may even be on the Toronto dvd, but would have to view it to make sure.

I can't be the only one who has been thinking about this right Confusedhock:


Especially "ooohhh love is a curse"

I have it in my brain that a past version Fully Completely either starts with that or ends with that. Could it go as far back as Live Between Us?

Maybe the song will grow on me, but I find it jarring that in the middle of a "recorded song" there is basically a "recorded rant". Maybe like wine, it will grow with me over time........ but right now I could take it or leave it.
