hey hipbase-ers, i'm new to the board and so i just found this thread...it's been a while since this show...
i worked at the marquee from the day it opened, and have to say that gord's solo show was one of the best, and most highly anticipated, shows we ever hosted. gord certainly did not disappoint!
when i came into work that night i was really looking forward to the show, but i have to admit i was feeling kind of sad after hearing the news about johnny cash's passing.
i came in early to check out gord's soundcheck and to set up the bar, as i knew it would be a busy night. when i arrived, gord was by himself outside on the back step behind the stage, playing his guitar. i got a quick hello and a smile from him as i headed inside.
a few minutes later, while unlocking the liqour cabinets, gord came up to me at the bar and said "hi, i'm gord"...as if he needed an introduction :wink: ..and held out his hand. i shook his hand and said "hey gord, i'm tim. it's a pleasure to meet you." we then started talking about johnny cash for a few minutes, and what a sad day it was with his passing. gord told me that he wanted to do a cash song that night and had decided to do " the man comes around", but he didn't have the lyrics. he asked me if i might be able to help him out, considering i was the only one around working at the time...i had keys to the office so i told him i would download the lyrics for him on the computer downstairs. i got the lyrics for him...he thanked me and went off, i assume, to practice the tune.
later, when he came on stage, he opened with the cash tune and there was an atmosphere in the place that i had never experienced. didn't experience it again either...and i've seen a lot of shows. there wasn't a dry eye around, that i could see, after gord finished that song. a fitting tribute to a great musician and a legend, and performed by a canadian legend...unforgettable for me, and i'm sure many felt the same way.
the show was abolutely brilliant. i tried my best to work and see as much as i could, but i absolutely stopped and was mesmerized when he did neil young's "when you dance"...another case of a legend paying tribute to a legend. being a huge neil fan, that's another moment i'll never forget. i'll never forget meeting gord and talking to him, and would welcome the chance to see him on a solo tour again.

I LOVED THE CONCERT but HATED THE CROWD. I think I was one of maybe five people who actually had heard Gord's solo stuff. I saw a guy with a CMG shirt so there were at least two of us anyway. 
I think I was the only one in my area that knew the words so maybe that threw Josh and Dale off a little bit. The worst part of the show for me was when the band decided to play "Pascal's Submarine". People rushed up and elbows were flying around me. Anyway, it was the last show of that tour and the boys gave me a great night of music so I'm happy.
