I was talking in general terms as to why some people don't bother calling the police for help, or in other situations are reluctant to report police misconduct... since they feel the report wouldn't be taken seriously if an officer is involved. The police 'protect' their own on a daily basis.

Agreed on the point re cops taking care of their own. In this case, the guy is only going to get nailed because it was on tape, so that it could make the TV news. If it wasn't for the surveillance tape, the guy would get a slap on the wrist.

Even with the tape, my bet is he won't be jailed. Not after the court hears how stressful his job is, etc.

It's possible. I've seen cops in Charlottetown turn a blind eye to potentially dangerous situations. I was with a guy and witnessed a cop pretty much tell him off for no good reason. He had a group of people bangin on his door trying to get in and do god knows what to him and he called the cops only to have nobody show up. When trying to get an answer as to why nobody arrived, he was scolded by the cops. Great folks. I played hockey with a few cops from Charlottetown who just happened to be known drug dealers. I've had a female cop hand me a ticket for driving dangerously with no good reason and she basically determined that I was guilty in the car accident. Nevermind the fact that she has nothing to do with determining who's at fault or not. I contested the ticket and didn't even have to go to court because they basically had no case against me. I have a very difficult time trusting cops. I'd like to trust them but all my experiences have pretty much been bad ones.
