Chicago for NYE 2006
#16

Just did a search on TM. Tickets come to $158.50 after service charges. There's a $12 Convenience Charge and a $1.50 Building Facility Charge.

I wish it wasn't so expensive or else I'd do it. I'll have to settle for 5 shows in Jan/Feb

I just bought two tickets. My wife and I are going. I never thought I would spend so much to see any band, but I love seeing The Hip live and this show could be somewhat of an experience. The possibility of a 3 hour show is intriguing.

It also says "special guests" so I imagine the Hip won't hit the stage until later than 9pm. And I would think that your ticket price would include New Years party favours and possibly even dinner. That's normally what any of these places do on New Years No?

Good on ya for going Hugh! Wish I could be there with ya! :thumb:

it'll at the very least probably get you some champagne at midnight...

I don't think you'll get the sparkling wine at midnight. Received an e-mail from HOB that gives the option of "Back Porch Dinner Package"

-Ticket to the show
-Dinner in the Back Porch Restaurant (pre-fix menu)
-Champagne Toast

$212.75 per person.

You'd bloody hope so, wouldn't you! I think the problem with New Year shows is that you have to pay all the arena staff etc major overtime, and sadly someone has to foot the bill.

i believe the local cbs affiliate in chicago is channel 2. they do a live broadcast of the chicago marathon on the station also. not sure if they would broadcast this live but i just throw it out there for those with more knowledge. great venue for the show. saw the july show and may go back for this.

Just got my ticket. The thing you have to take into consideration re: the cost is it's Chicago (not The Hammer). All entertainment options are expensive on New Year's Eve here, unless you hang out a a friend's party or go to a local bar.

Channel 2 in Chicago (cbs) has broadcast a local NYE concert for the past 5-10 years. I think the HoB has been the venue for the past 5. My vcr will be set and I'll get someone to tivo it as well.

New Years Eve gigs are always more expensive than regular shows, but $145 is a little ridiculous. If I'm paying that much, I'd better get dinner and champagne along with the show.

new years eve is normally a doubled standard pay gig... They are getting more for this show IMO. Plus it is newyears eve.... there has to be more to it then just the show..

I wouldn't expect a longer than normal show. I was at the NYE shows in Hamilton 2002-03 and 2004-05 and both shows, while awesome, were letdowns as far as length of the show. I was expecting at least 2.5-3 hours the first time and it was probably around an hour and 45. You figure it's New Year's Eve and they're gonna pull out all the stops, play some rare songs. Not really. A little better than a normal show, not extraordinarily better. Playing Long Time Running as the clock struck in '03 got them out of it in my book but '05 was blah.

As I'm clicking on this thread, I'm yelling to my bf 'Ooh the Hip are playing NYE! Let's get tickets!'... and then I nearly choked when I saw how much they were. Sad

If you could YouTube it, we'd be truly grateful. Big Grin
