While I hope I'm not reading into these behind-the-scenes photos too much, something troubles me, and I'd be curious what the rest of you think as well...Here we've got a new single that not only has divided Das Hip's loyal fanbase, but becos of the new, poppier and what many what would declare "UnHip" sound of the new single, there's a risk that many new fans (Particularly those south of the border) will perceive Das Hips as a different band than what many longtime fans know and love them as...

And now we've got a new video that seems t'be filled with solely with our man Gord...is this gonna fuel more misconceptions of the band? Gord Downie and The Tragically Hip? The enigmatic frontman and his backing band of lackies? Here's hoping not...I think we can all agree that while Gord is surely the most entertaining member, it's the dual-crunch of the guitars and the formidable rhythm section that make the heart and soul of this band we love...

So again, I may be reading into this way too much, cos I know we've seen videos (Bobcaygeon, Music@Work) where Gord is the star of the show, yet the rest of the band is there as well...I just think the last thing we need is a bunch of 12 year-old girls (A joke everyone) t'start worshipping this band becos of just one member...

....or who knows? Maybe the rest of the band did their shots in about 20 minutes and spent this whole time in a bar somewhere in Chinatown...

I'd bet money that the other guys are in the video.

I'd also bet money that alot of 12 year old girls wouldn't find Gord hot, and if it ain't hot, I can't see alot of 12 year old girls liking it.

It'd be just as bad though if 42 year old girls got into the hip/Gord but considered them no different than rob thomas or rod stewart.

Come on, people. All this fuss over In View is a little ridiculous. For those of you who don't like it, oh well...wait for the album and hopefully there will be some other songs you'll like. We all have songs that we skip every time (Butts Wigglin, Coconut Cream).

People keep saying that this is a step backwards after IBE. The Hip's sound didn't "evolve" into the sound on IBE: that sound was totally different from IVL, which was different from M@W, which was VERY different from Phantom Power. But none of this has been some steady progression, or an evolution. They try out different styles, different levels of polish, background vocals (remember Kate Fenner and Chris Brown....and remember Julie Doiron on the Completists...she sang a whole line by herself...blasphemy! Now they're using keyboards!!! Good God!) on every album. I happen to love In View, but that's beside the point. This isn't selling out. This is one song.

You seem to address your own concern when you bring up the videos for Bobcaygeon and Music at Work, which clearly starred Gordie. And how about some more: The Darkest One, Poets....all the videos that aren't straightforward "band performances" seem to feature Gord Downie in the starring role. Maybe the rest of the band is in the video...maybe not. Who cares? NONE of the band members were in the videos for Greasy Jungle or Vaccination Scar. It's just a visual piece to go along with the song. They probably saved money by just flying Gord Downie to New York for the shoot. Don't worry, no 12 year old girls are going to fall for Gordie because of this song or this video.

I have no idea why having songs on MTV or the O.C. would be a bad thing.
Especially since stations and shows pick which songs will be played, not the other way around. You know, the Hip once had a song play in the background on Regis and Kathie Lee. Somehow I never thought of that as a misstep.

Care to clarify?
