YYZ is the airport code for Toronto's Pearson Int'l Airport.
I think that "john cage" was asking, "Why isn't the song YYZ by Rush on the list?" Not, where is YYZ located?

Good comedy, either way.

Guess its obvious I'm not a Rush fan.

But I work at a travel agency, where those 3 letter airport codes mean everything. I see license plates on cars that have 3 letters and automatically think, "ah, TXL, that's Berlin." Yes, I know, I'm strange.

Aye, you are correct, sir. YYZ is the best song ever written about an airport, Canadian or otherwise. Big Grin

Could it be that it doesn't appear on that collection because there aren't even vocals (lyrics) on that cut?

That track does kick ass, tho. So was it written during a layover at Pearson? I never knew the significance of that 3-letter title.....

Holy shit... I never realized what YYZ meant, and I consider myself a Rush fan too! Of course, I don't fly either.... so that's my excuse. Wink

Wheat Kings probably hit the canadian culture right on with images of the prairies and prime ministers (ha i originaly put presidents, doh!) and weather vanes. Plus it was about David Milgard case. Which is distinctly canadian and studied all over the world. Although lots of other songs come to mind.

If i had to pick greatest canadian song from the list. There is no doubt in my mind:

NorthWest Passage - Stan Rogers.

If he hadnt have died helping people out of an airplane fire... lots of respect for Gordon Lightfoot and Stoppin Tom, but these guys would be opening for Him.

What a great writer/singer. He had wrote about the maritimes and then the prairies and he was about to do a cross canada tour to write about the rest of canada. To bad i never got to see him live. Died the same year as i was born.

Cheers Stan!
