Scott, I think your math is off a bit... I think that 1 US Gallon = 3.78 litres; 3.78 litres at a buck a litre is $3.78 CDN - GST (7%) = $3.53 CDN. $1 CDN = $0.84 USD that works out to $2.94... so it is more expensive, but not that much.

Fuel analysts have said for a long time that gasoline was underpriced, which drove our culture to depend on it. Only now is the market starting to correct itself. Hopefully some good can come of this, and some of the alternative/emerging technologies can come to the fore. Let's get Hydrogen cars in everyone's driveway, and wind turbines to generate electricity.

Another part of the price equation for high gas prices is consumer behavior and production issues. I just read in the local paper that because of NIMBY-ism and other political issues, no new refineries have been built in the US since 1976!. There are also a ton of laws that restrict where gas stations can buy their gas from. For example, if there is a breakdown in the Chicago gas supply chain, the gas stations in the Chicago area can not buy gas meant for Iowa or other nearby Midwest states. It's absolutely insane. Consumer behavior also needs to be addressed to encourage people to make more efficient use of their cars instead of just driving around because you can.

I regret buying a truck.... gas in Winnipeg hit 103.9! I know that is good compared to other cities, but hell, $60 to fill my truck.

Only 60 bucks man? What do you have, a Ranger or S-10 or something? I've got a Silverado and it would take at least $80 to fill. Gas prices are just ridiculous. There's nothing you can do but laugh.

i put premium in my Altima 3.5 se. Ouch!

my car needs premium also so i've been paying ~$1 for a while... and now since regular is about $1 or 1.08... 91 octane costs $1.18

however i did just get 7.3L/100km on my trip home from wasaga beach so i'm not complaining
