last birthday i got to see Canada win the World Cup Of Hockey @ the ACC, and this year i get U2 @ the ACC! i've been wanting to see U2 live for the longest time, and if all goes well, i will, and i'll get to cross off another name on my "to see" list (then I'll have to work hard on getting to see Pearl Jam, Neil Young, Black Sabbath, Slayer, David Bowie, Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Matthew Good, and Primus).

Hmm lucky you, if I had to make a list of "bands I have to see before I die" kind of thing, PearlJam and RHCP's would be on it for sure. Ive seen Tool and they were killer, I saw Matt Good not too long ago, man is that latest album of his amazing or what, I cant stop playing it. As far as U2 goes, my wife really wants to see them, so Ill probably end up going to Toronto as well, although I think the new album is blah. IMO 8)

it's better than the last record, and probably as good as if not better than pop (which i really enjoyed), i think "Love And Peace Or Else" (gotta love the fuzzed out bassline and the straight up smokin' bluesy/tripped out guitar lick at the end) is pretty kick ass, one of the coolest most inspired songs they've put out in quite some time, and when i hear it, i think "wow, here's a band that is still on top of their game". "All Because Of You" is just delicious, the Edge makes me drool with his handy work on that one. He's got the most incredible knack for coming up with the catchiest riffs, that I think he should change his name to "Dr. Hook". Even if it has become "just a little bit tired", i still prefer Vertigo to any single from ATYCLB, it's not their best, but i think it's pretty cool to hear them do a simple loud rock & roll song , it's a pretty fun riff, very Ramonescent at its core, but all slicked up and glossed over to for the masses. "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" is pretty cool for a mellow number, it's sonic perfection in your headphones, hypnotic to the ears, it just kind of draws you deeper into itself and then breaks, and bursts out into a sweeping wave of live drums and searing guitars There's something about A Man And A Woman that I can't quite seem to put my finger on that I can't get enough of. As for the rest of the album, i'm still undecided except i really don't like Miracle Drug at all.

Miracle Drug is my favorite song on the album. I think the album is awesome, and I can't wait to (finally) see these guys in December at the HSBC.
I'm honestly shocked to see so much U2 hatin' here. The album received mostly excellent reviews, and was warmly received on all the other message boards that I visit. It's just weird to me to see such a high percentage of people here on Hipbase who hate it, when the overwhelming majority of people that I've encountered elsewhere really loved the album. Oh well, different strokes for different folks I guess. 8)

I would also agree that Sometimes is the best ballad since One. One would definitely be among my favourites by U2 and that high note on "fake it" at the end of Sometimes gets me the same way. In all honesty, I believe that All I Want Is You is their best ballad, however.

C'mon, the call was a good natured gimmick. Besides, if a Liberal PM is pissing off Republicans, I'd say he's doing a job on the policy side. And ya know Bono's got better stories to tell than Dubbya anyway.
Papers today confirmed that the CHUM radio petition was what did it. Paul just got some good press out of it.
Seeing as how Bono said he'd "pester his ass" non stop if he didn't keep his promises to Africa, I'll be interested to see if they have another cheery meeting at the Lord Elgin this time around.
I like U2, but I do not like Bono mixing music with politics. Just stick with one, IMO.
