If Billy Talent wins it wouldn't be awful, even though the hip deserve it of course...

I tend to think of these things in a "who needs the boost?" kinda way.

The Hip don't, hell, they're going into the Hall of Fame that same night. So here's hoping a DESERVING group of youngsters gets the hardware.

I dont think the hip would have even been nominated if they weren't getting the lifetime achievement award this year. I think theres no possible way the hip have a remote chance to win any of the awards they're up for. I really hope I'm wrong, but sadly I don't think I am.

You may be correct. I can possibly see them winning "Album of the Year" but that's iffy. Like previously stated, awards don't mean anything anyway. Of course, it'd be cool to see the Hip win because it would give me the satisfaction of knowing some saps like Avril or Simple Plan or Sum41 or Default aren't getting airtime for fake award speeches.

what's with everyone raggin on Sum 41, they're not that good really, but they're ok, they're funny/entertaining at least, they don't try to be anything that they're not, and they seem like a decent bunch of guys, also, i still love their Pain For Pleasure video \M/

I just don't care for them. I think they're pretty arrogant though. They just seem like punk kids to me and I don't personally find them funny or entertaining at all. That's just my opinion though and it's cool if others love or hate them.

Funny and entertaining does not equal musical talent

has anyone ever noticed that on Grammy night, the act that is performing, "usually" ends up winning the award that they are nominated, and the award is usually presented right after their performance. the band is usually shown backstage right after their performance, then walk on to accept. i have a feeling that because the hip are performing, it might be a "touchy, feely" night for them, and they get the nod for an award or two. i'm not sure if acts like billy talent or sum 41 are performing or not, but with the hip playing, i can see them picking up something. i know their performance is more for the hall of fame induction rather than their nominations, but something tells me they'll get something, especially if their awards are presented after their performance. i'm not saying they only deserve those awards because their performing, but it might jus be a nostalgic night....

Funny story about Sum 41. As the story goes the 'roadies' get 5 backstage passes each per show, and the passes have their initials discreetly placed somewhere on them. At the end of the night the band discuss or arbitrarily pick which roadie gave their pass to the hottest broad...or the best fallater...and he gets a 'gold star' or something to that effect. At the end of the concert tour the roadie with the most gold stars wins a brand new Harley. Where do I sign up??

The exception that proves the rule might be the year Metallica played "One" and Jethro Tull won Best Heavy Metal Album. I wasn't even a Metallica fan and I thought that was... Confusedhock:

Okay, yes, it was pretty funny. Unjust as can be, but funny.
