Song Introductions
#16

"I got a phone call last night and my friends told me that the police found a body wrapped in chains at the bottom of the lake. Now I'm wanted for murder" Three Pistols intro (pre-release) July 4, 1990 HFeStival, Washington, D.C. This was the first time I saw them and I believed him.

"I'll either hunt you down like a dog and kill you or I'll believe (be leaving?) in you" April 1991 Bayou Washington D.C.

"Paul is wearing a vest tonight to cover the roach burns in his shirt. This next song is about my struggle to avoid the same fate" Twist my Arm

"My sister is a very beautiful girl and I am not ashamed" Pigeon Camera

I'll post more when the fog of memories lost, parts.

wow bigblackie, I don't think I've heard ANY of those introductions. Did you just get them in person or do you have concert bootlegs with them on?

I should put a parental advisory on this post only because its a bit shocking the first time you hear it, and if you weren't there you probably wouldn't believe it. I have never heard anything on a bootleg that is even close to this. My friend and I had seen the Hip once before but it was the first show for my other four friends who came along. The look on my friend Bill's face was utter shock. Needless to say, they have been huge fans ever since.

Here it goes...the specifics aren't exact but I'll never forget the jist of it...

"So there I am...you know...f*****g my mother. And there's this bird, sitting on the window sill, and he's watching. You know, he's watching me f**k my mother. He's just sitting, taking it allllllll in, just watching. I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THAT F*****G BIRD EVER SINCE!! THIS IS CALLED PIGEON CAMERA!!"

Wow, that's actually a part of the Coyotes show?! I guess for obvious reasons it wasn't part of the radio show we all have...I would kill to hear the complete show now Big Grin

I've been to over 30 Hip shows over the last 14 years and don't have a single bootleg. A lot of great memories, just no bootlegs. I wish I could remember all of the rants. Especially from the Bayou, April 1991. Gordie was in particularly rare form.

The radio show we all have was recorded in April/May 1991 on the Road Apples tour. They played there again in April '93 on the FC tour, which was the first time I saw them. But this intro occured in July '94 which was a pre-Day for Night tour. After that the Hip were to big to play in a venue of that size in Tucson.

The next time you listen to that Coyotes show, keep in mind this comical note about what kind of venue that place is (or was since its no longer there). Coyotes was a Mexican-Cowboy bar. Think about what a trip it was to see the Hip with 1/2 college students and 1/2 cowboys wearing huge cowboy hats, huge belt buckles, and very tight jeans, yet they didn't speak a word of English. Not to mention that is was about 110 degrees in that place and the floor in front of the stage was about the size of my dorm room. The rest of the bar was all tables where these guys were sitting with their tequila shots and staring at this maniac on stage.

That's awesome, I had no idea! I'll keep that mental picture in mind next time I listen to it, which is often..

And yeah total brain freeze on the date...I didn't notice you'd written 1994 there. I should have known, because Coyotes 91 is one of my three most favourite bootlegs, and Pigeon Camera obviously isn't on there.

And one more quote which wasn't a song intro but a show intro...

Gord in his best cowboy accent: "Hello and welcome to the Triple W".

Its not crazy, it was just hilarious at the time. In keeping with their tradition of playing cowboy establishments in Tucson, the name of the venue was called "Wild Wild West". It was a huge country music club/bar. The stage was set-up on the enormous line-dancing floor they had.

It was the DFN tour on 5/11/95. I believe the old "WWW" is no longer around either.
