Song Introductions
#1

anyone that has ever seen or heard the hip live will have heard some of gords hilarious/clever song introductions
some of my favs are

New Orleans is sinking:
Gord: " Some summer we're having......i've been waiting for this one all night.......This is a cajun two-step.........that will make you sweat!!"

ABAC (from woodstock)
"This is a song about the longest snake in the world"...........(i forget the rest but it says something about the snake shedding its skin and signing it for people saying i love you....always have)

as an aside i was wondering if anyone can remember what boot its from where gord starts off by saying: if you were a song what song would you be? and could i request you

I always loved "Whaddaya wanna hear? What? Will you not leave the bar till you hear that song? Alright, we'll play it last." and later... "This song is for...*looks around*...YOU...for being so patient."

And from the same bootleg...the intro to Boots or Hearts: "This is a song for all the couples. You two, you make a good couple. [sarcastically] You? Her? Fuck! Boots or Hearts!"

Ooh, ooh, speaking of Woodstock...one of my favourite introductions of all time is from Poets:

"This is called In Hindustan Where We Stopped To Rest Our Weary Caravan".

Here's Gord introducing Ahead by a Century in Utrecht, Netherlands '97:

"Here's a song about a window-washer, who saw a corporate executive boffing his secretary. He saw too much! The corporate executive leans out the window, snips the wires. He plunges 48 stories to his death with a massive erection. With the time he had left, the split second, the fractions of seconds he had left on the face of this planet, he chose to fantasize about a woman. And had the most incredible orgasm of his entire life as he hit the ground."

This one is a classic intro...

I'm A Werewolf, Baby (1988-02-03)

"Yeah, all right.... What's that you wanna hear?... Okay... All right... I've got a funny story about this;.... twenty-four years ago, my old man was sitting in a bar in Toronto when some joker put about thirty amphetamines in his drink... when he wasn't looking... when he was off in the bathroom or something... and he went back home and my mother was kind of sitting there and my dad didn't really feel like sleeping... twenty-four years later I'm a werewolf, baby"
