after a solid month (almost) of listening i would have to say that copenhagen is my favorite song, followed by nashville and heart.
Really hope to hear cop..and heart at darien on friday...

That's a good point about production. After the disastrous production sheen on IVL, and the muddy prog-rock of 'Music@work,' this straight-off-the-floor urgency was DESPERATELY needed. It is indeed the best produced Hip CD, except maybe for PP, and the only one that captures their intensity live (Road Apples excepted, maybe). It kicks! :rambo:
'You're Everywhere,' as I said in another thread, is one of Downie's finest moments as a writer and singer. It's so passionate and poignant.
But the song I really want to lionize here is 'Mean Streak.' The groove on that tune, the ominous lyrics...'Mean Streak in a ghost state, between the certain and the hesitating...' Brrr.
And I still say 'Makeshift' shoulda been a single. In fact, 'Are We Family' has a chance to do well as a single in the US IMHO (although I can't see it as a good release for the Canadian market). It's got a damned catchy rhythm section, a wonderfully suscinct hook---'are we family or what?'---and a memorable spin on the old 'We Are Family' standby. The American market is such a mystery, who knows?
The only tunes I routinely skip are 'Heaven' and 'Copenhagen.' Both seem banal to me, although the lyrics on Copenhagen are terrific.
