I asked if we could convert this to DVD and torrent. The answer was "No. But you'll probably be able to get on DVD soon..."
Once this club tour is over, I'll ask again and post what I find.

A long, long, long  time ago I used the Wheat Kings footage (Gord D's discussion with David Milgaard) as part of a presentation for OAC (Gr. 13) Writer's Craft. I analyzed the lyrics to WK and used the Heksenketel video to help back me up. I can't remember but I'm pretty sure I got an A!
I kind of like my worn tape and box. Its like an old friend. So I don't know if I'd pick up the DVD version if there ever was one allowed.

I transferred my VHS copy to DVD a few years back and then donated the VHS to the local library, I think. I'd be happy to share my DVD but the band (understandably so) apparently has indicated they do not want it distributed in that manner. I hope it was ok that I did what I did. If not, then I made this whole post up!

Some great quotes in the video
1) Bus Driver "Boys there's no imports here, domestic only"
Roadie "What? Are we in the states"
Johnny Fay "What are we in the states, we're in F*ckin' Manitoba!"
Roadie "Oh,right"
2) Gord Downie "We finally have the ability to hire good security, instead of just using whatever it was that was there, which is what we used to do. And sometimes you would get, you know, the local junior hockey team... they have no experience. And then these guys bust heads and that's it when it starts getting really gross"
3) When a guy runs across the stage and dives into the crowd and Gordie goes on a 2 minute rant about Clint Eastwood and how the diver "was my man, I should've taken him down...." Then after the show a roadie says to Johnny Fay "That f'n guy who jumped up on stage isn't gonna live to see tomorrow"
4) When asked about nervous peeing before the show
Gord Sinclair: 1 , 2 maybe, sometimes 1 when I'm up there
Paul Langlois: I'd say about 5.... yeah 5
Robby Baker: (takes camera man into the porta-pisser) I'm not as bad as Paul. Paul pisses every 5 minutes before a show. But this is a genuine pee, not a nerves. Now you see the stream is shaky because my hands are shaky, that's nerves, y'know that my hands are shaking.
5) Bus Driver "Something stinks?"
Johnny Fay "Ya, your plan".... "He's already got our f*cking calling card, He's been f*ucking phoning EVERYWHERE, that's why were bankrupt.
6) Coquihalla Highway Toll both lady: "What group is that?"
Bus Driver" "The Tragically Hip"
Lady (with a stunned look): "Is that a rock group, or what?"
Driver: "Ya, I'd say so"
Lady: "Got any souvenirs?"
Johnny Fay: "She gonna let us thru for free?"
Bus driver hands here some sort of poster
Lady: Thanks a lot, take it easy
Driver: See ya later
Johnny Fay: SMELL YA, later
Driver: I think she's a country music fan!

Wow that video just brings it all back... that show was larger than life.
I worked for 3 days as a "Roadie" setting up the stage and tearing it down at the Markham Fairgrounds. What happened in between was crazy. I have backstage photos, memories and an autograph from Gord D that I will assemble into the most unique Hip review I've ever written. Stay tuned this spring.
