You should try and contact the DJ for the Canucks and ask if you can hear the song. Not tape it, not get a copy, just hear it! One time I called my radio station before the latest R.E.M. single had been released and buddy played it for me over the phone. Amazing experience!

We all have what in common? A vaccincation scar? If I have one, I've never seen it. And to the best of my knowledge, it's not that I can't find it, it's that I don't have one.

Now I feel left out....

For those of you who may not know what a vaccination scar is....here is what I know. Most people born in the 1930's to the early 1970's have one. During this period there was a big push in the medical field to vaccinate all newborns from preventable diseases (polio,mumps...). These diseases were still killing children in North America and many parents were unaware of or wary of using this new medical advancement to prevent illness. Public service announcements educated the populace and vaccinations are now a common part of every child's life.

The most common site of a vaccination scar is the left arm where it meets the shoulder. The scar is circular and smaller than a penny. The skin is slightly discolored and scarred from where the injection tore the skin and later formed a scab. This was the usual procedure for vaccinating against chickenpox. Other sites for vaccination scars are the back of the left shoulder blade and the buttocks. If you would like to view one you must know someone who is in their late 30's or older.

During the 1970's vaccination guidelines were updated and newborns received a different type of chickenpox vaccination which left no scar. Therefore most of you do not have a vaccination scar.

So we all have vaccination scars only some are so small that you can't see them. I'm 30 and will be 31 in a month and don't have a visible scar. I think it was 1972 or so when they stopped giving the scarring shot out here as some of my friends have it and some don't

Bauer you are definitely correct. I was incorrect in saying that the scarring shot was for the chicken pox vaccine. The scar came from the small pox vaccination. No, they don't give that type of scarring injection anymore. I don't think they vaccinate for chicken pox either. Most of us get it when we are younger and develop our own immunity to it.

Enough with the science lesson. The Hip's first single, Vaccination Scar will be awesome! I sure hope it's in the classic rockin' Hip style of earlier albums. April 8th can't come soon enough. I'll have to e-mail the alternative rock station 89X(CIMX) in Windsor that broadcasts to Detroit and request that they get an advance copy and play it.
