In all seriousness, it's probably not the hip. Especially if Dwayne Gretzky is doing hip tunes.
ween would be really cool. I'd love Elvis Costello too, but I doubt that. Ween is the smart bet, especially since they're at Riot as sherpa mentioned. There's already a bunch of bands on both bills (death cab, jimmy eat world, jake bugg, the hives). Wonder if they're carpooling?

I'd say there's almost no chance it's The Hip, and even less chance of it being Rush considering the festival. Elvis Costello isn't a "they," and Ween isn't a "major, major" performer, unless you're the world's biggest Ween fan. Other "recorded live albums in Toronto" possibilities include the Rolling Stones (who are on the road this fall) and The Who (also touring), but I'd be surprised to see either of them at TURF.
If I had a giant pile of money to gamble with instead of using it to buy Hip tickets, I'd bet that the TURF announcement will be Neil Young and Promise of the Real. Neil Young currently has Sept. 16 set as a tour date on his website, but with no corresponding venue info listed.

That is a good point about Neil Young though he isn't really a "they" also http://www.neilyoung.com/tour.html
I think the Ween reunion is pretty major and in line with the headliners already on the bill

Everclear has a live album from toronto but i cant see anyone considering them a "major" headliner. Blue rodeo also has one form toronto ....but also not "major" ....in my mind anyway. I think ween is probably the strongest contender so far.

If it's him + backing band, it's a "they". And holy fuck I'd so be there. I saw him at Wayhome and minus the Monsanto shit, it was great.
