Hip Tour in Jan/Feb 2015
#16

I've recently been watching a ton of live videos of Hip performances, dating back to the early 90's all the way up to the last tour, and aside from the singing which has been discussed at length, Gord's antics the last few years have really bothered me.

When I watch him on stage, it seems like singing the song is a complete aside to whatever pantomime act he's doing, as though singing the song is an inconvenience. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the odd crazy stage mannerism, but it's gotten out of hand. There used to be a balance between showing some enjoyment of singing the song, and being a pure performer. I want to see some emotion, and connection to the song. I also feel like the mannerisms take away from what the other guys are doing on stage, like the music is secondary.

Anyways, I'm glad they're going to be touring, and I'll still probably catch a show, I just wanted to make that point.

Looking forward to it; hopefully they make it out to Vancouver Island. I just moved here from Ottawa, where I could easily catch them in New York state, but I don't think I'll be able to travel far to see them this time around. A show in Victoria in a nice theater would be great, it's been a while since they've done anything and I'm starting to get an itch to see them again.

just hope they come back refreshed
and inspired!
would be nice to see them with more energy this time
i agree gord needs to stop focusing on dancing and worry about singing
no one cares if he can spin around 3 times and catch a stupid hankie

maybe bobby can knock some sense into him!

Someone needs to knock some sense into Bobby as well. He's the one responsible for all those lazy, boring setlists of late. They need to hand the setlist duties back to Sinclair.

I for one is simply glad to see some more creative juice left in the bottle. It sounds like new material is in the works. I liked NFPA and hope the next album is as good or better. Tourwise, I (as most everyone on this forum) hope the band plays shows simular to the 09 tour. The ACOUSTIC set in the middle helps Gord to maintain his voice and for us to enjoy the nuances of his talent at a lower volume...if only for a few unique songs....

The Horseshoe is going to be celebrating their 40th or 100th anniversary or something like that (I cant remember) , on their facebook page a week or two ago, they had a post about it and saying people can name who the "secret" acts will be to celebrate and if you got it right there was going to be a draw for free tickets to get in. wonder if that is it?

Arenas, blech...

I've been seeing The Hip since 1996 but if they play the arena in Winnipeg I will seriously consider not going. It was 2/3 full last time, it was a very similar show to the 2011 tour and the ticket price for each of those shows was outrageous.

The $40 front row tickets and 4 hour drive to Fargo was much more enjoyable.
