EMC, I think the reason you may not have seen the discussions about the repetative set lists (or gotten the sarcasm!) is that the discussion is primarily in the show reviews section of this board which you may not have been visiting.
but there has been a lot. a good number of people are just as surprised about the set lists as you are and many have echoed your comments.

I am a ten club member and have seen pj over 10xs, same with Phish, Black Crowes, Dead(all incarnations ratdog, p&F, etc)... The Hip are more rock band then Jam Band. They play tunes from the new CD that they are promoting, then throw in hits with some less heard fav's. I'm fine with that. I really enjoyed the We Are The Same tour with the acoustic set in the middle, and they seemed to play rare tunes. I also loved the World Container tour with the covers. Sure I would like to hear puttin Down, the bastards , dark canuck, and many other tunes mixed in.....But I do not think they are 'mailing it in'. I'll give them a pass this tour for all the reasons mentioned in other threads and will be psyched to hear the new tunes on the next tour.
As far as PJ....they are great and do a better mix(esp if playing the same place 2 nights i a row), but they are playing a certain # of tunes throughout the tour....I took 3 random setlist from 2010, non consec nights, and you get alot of repeats. 7 tunes the same for all 3 shows, 10 tunes found in 2 of 3 shows(=17 same tunes if you went to those 2 shows)....All That said, I can't wait for Hamilton..

I was at the Winnipeg show last night - in no way, shape or form are they 'mailing it in'. The band still plays with high energy, incredible energy actually and clearly they enjoy playing for fans. It was almost embarrassing to see the difference in energy between the Hip and Broken Social Scene (who clearly were mailing it in).
The Hip have been around so long, toured so long, it is somewhat ignorant of people to say 'they should be doing this or that'. They have earned the right to record and tour as they see fit.
A Hip set list is like a box of chocolates..you never know which one you're going to get.

I dont care what they play, After all it is their songs that make me go. Either way I enjoy it.

Funny, I've been reading some show reviews from 2002 to 2005 and it's uncanny how similar some of the setlist complaints are. I have no issues with the current setlists on this tour, my problem all along has been the venue set up as it relates to the VIP sections; I don't believe the band has much to do with that problem. The Hip are still relevant, packing shows in with old and young, have flourishing solo projects, and a new album coming out. These guys are still amazing and will continue to be for some time to come.

I have never heard people voice their complaints in the set list department regarding The Hip.
Simply put, I just want to see them this year, they can play covers of Justin Bieber all night for all I care. :lol: Okay maybe that is a stretch, but, I love them and am not fortunate enough to see them very often. Travel and a lot of money is always involved with pleasure of seeing The Hip live. I go for the classics and the incomparable stage presence.
