but is anyone finding the hip boring right now
they continue to play the same set lists each night after night
same songs over and over again

I have seen over 25 hip shows starting at 95 in the gardens, and I am not sure how the band or fans could stay into the same thing everynight

Is anyone seeing more than one or two shows this tour?

I remember when they used to play 2 or 3 nights at mlg or acc and they would kill it

anyone agree or am i just expecting to much

For the past few sunmmers I have seen a ton of phish and pearl jam shows and each one of those are different
I know the hip are not a jamm your face of band but it would be nice to mix it up and bust out something every now and than

they did this with their tour a couple years ago when they did a different cover each night

How can the same thing each night be fun, and where is the magic and one time hits, like when they played fidlers or 38 years old

It just feels like its been a greatest hits tour for sometime now

I am not sure why everyone here is so suprised that someone thinks the hip have become to repeatitive.

Look at set lists from 2002 to present

They look basically the same except for the odd new song thrown in there

Do you think we will have have an exciting hip that used to preview new songs in NOIS or Hundred? like in 94 kumbaya or 95 gardens (ABAC in NOIS)

Someone please tell me they are rocking again

The last show i saw was at nokia theatre in nyc
thought it was fun to relive my youth, but i found the performance and concert meh

Anyways, ya it has been brought up ad nausium, but only recently over the past few shows.

In all honesty I don't think they have been stale at all over the past few years and still incorporate new songs (or covers) in the middle of others. Heck, during the whole World Container tour there was a new cover song every night, they started playing Fiddler's Green, and Fully Completely was timing in at 13+ minutes with tons of misc stuff thrown into the mix.

Ya, you are more than likely guaranteed to hear Fully, or Courage, or NOIS if you go seem them, but they still mix it up more than 90% of the other bands out there. For every Courage, you still get Daredevil, or Escape, or Emperor..........

Really as fans I don't think we have ANYTHING to complain about and, as many people have said, the recent setlists may just be for the documentary filming.

I still have faith in the boys. My gut is telling me this coming tour may involve a full album set, similar to Roger Waters Dark Side tour or Rush's current Time Machine Tour. If I had to put money on it, I would call a Day For Night album set...but it is also coming up on the 20th Anniversary of Fully Completely as well.........

i ma impressed how laid back the hip fans are
i look on other bands message boards (phish, pearl jam) and they are constantly being put to such high standard that they can never actually reach

Hip fans must be the greatest to be able to put up with this and not get to vocal about it

If this was another band the fans would be going nuts asking for something

However hip shows (to me IMO) are a place to relive your memories all from my childhood in canada!

When i see the hip now I am not going to see them for the musical experience just to relive the past kinda like a time machine
I am just fustrated because these guys could be so amazing !!!! And they are if, I just wish they would take more chances and mix it up a bit

A full album tour may too early for their career, most bands do it much later, after they run out of creative ways to give the fans what they want

I hate covers but hey that is me if I wanted a song from someone else I would go to their concert...anyway these summer shows have seen 3 new songs and I think and this had been said before they are playing to all fan bases and these fans need to hear what they know from The Hip...now WATS tour was nothing like that I think I read somewhere the catalog from that tour was something like 40 songs...I could be wrong but we heard never before played The Bear and other rarities like Dark Canuck, Stay, Puttin down, Tiger the Lion and I have been to quite a few shows and those don't show up much at all in my list of songs on The Hip website of my concerts attended...stay tuned real tour to follow.

Great post. Here in Winnipeg (show tonight!) we have always good a nice mix of old, new and non-hit tracks. But funny thing is Blow, 100th and Courage, et al STILL gets the biggest ovation. Many concert goers don't seem to know the newer material other than radio played songs such as View.

I follow a simple philosophy when it comes to music - when one of your favorite bands come to town, GO, because it may be the last time you see them for whatever reason. Enjoy whatever they decide to play.

This should be talked about because, if you look back, it is pretty much unprecedented that Hip setlists would be so close to being identical from night to night. Maybe in the early days with not as much material, but there's a dirth these days. The Darkest One hasn't been played since 2003 and Silver Jet since 2004 just to name a few forgotten great tunes...songs that can more than help carry a setlist.

I think it's alright to question these setlists. Especially if you bought tix to multiple shows based on past experiences where they were much more diversified. The OP mentions Phish. That's really an unfair comparison. They just dropped 99 different songs on their fans over 3 days and 7 sets at Super Ball IX. I'm a huge fan of both and I dig your style, but it's apples and oranges.

It's OK to expect more from The Hip.

We have debated this subject to death on here. Especially since the first few shows of this mini-summer tour occured. After taking in the Windsor show, I felt the band didn't really rehearse too much for the tour and selected songs they have played a bazillion times. HOWEVER, I think the tour setlists are a concious effort to do something (In the band's mind) different. To my memory (and I have seen them many time since 93) this IS something different...to simply haul out the hits and let the masses enjoy the songs they are familier with.

I have no idea what percentage of Hip fans are repeats or the kind of fans like myself who would LOVE to hear a varied and "deep album cut" kind of setlist but I know (as does the band) that we are a small but important cog in the Hip fanbase.

I can almost guarantee the next tour will feature a MUCH more vaired setlist... The band has respect for their catalog and the fanbase that demands more of it live!

For the record, I seen them at both Detroit shows in 09 and they played something in the range of 50 different songs between the two nights! Lot's of gems in there! Couldn't ask for more....
