No kidding. The guy has every right to say whatever the hell he wants about the album. I totally disagree with what he wrote, but just because he doesn't like the band, that doesn't necessarily make him a prick. The album just rubs him the wrong way, that's all. It's not for everybody.

The reviewer is bang on except for the argument that the production is an attempt to reach a wider audience. By all accounts the Hip are very comfortable with their legacy and WATS was clearly made to satisfy the bands own professional and personal needs without much thought for what critics and fans would think; the Hip have earned this right and I don't begrudge them for doing whatever the hell they want. Unfortunately, whats good for the band is not always good for the audience and because of the problems cited by the reviewer I have stopped listening to the studio tracks of WATS. I look forward to hearing these songs live, where I bet they will be considerably better in much the same way that live versions of WC are far superior to the studio versions.

Personally, I don't entirely agree with the reviewer. I think a lot of Hip fans would prefer to hear the band rock out a little more, so the decision to make a comparitively mellow album does not strike me as a bid for commercial success. Having said that, I would imagine that most of us Hipbasers don't regard WATS as the Hip's best work.

Well you missed my point.
Everybody has an opinion about everything, and my point was how its annoying that people " review" stuff and write about it in a negative light.
He does not speak for me, I think the album is great, So what makes his opinion better than mine?
Just because he says so? He says it sucks? To each his own. But when it comes to music or any other art form its all a matter of opinion so if you are telling people bad stuff about an artist its just a waste of time in my opinion. I have bought cds due to a good review and thought it was crap. So why do we really even need it?
That was my point.
I called the guy a prick to get a response. It worked.
