We did Ballad of a Thin Man by Dylan.
We also did Comfortably Numb, at my instigation. Can't remember what grade that was.

In my grade 9 social studies class we studied "Blue Sky Mine" by Midnight Oil. I was a huge fan of the Oils at the time, so it was pretty damn cool.

A petition MIGHT work, but I highly doubt it. I have a hard time trying to find other people around here who share my love of The Hip. Most times I see The Hip mentioned somewhere it's followed by comments from people who don't like them...
Actually, there was a thread called "Dumbest lyrics of all time" on another board I frequent and one of the first replies was "anything written by Gord Downie" Followed with replies agreeing with the comment...
There seems to be a real hate-on for the boys in this area and I can't quite understand it. Actually now that I think about it, people around here seem to be quite jealous of anyone who has had any success in their lives.
It actually seems to be that The Hip are appreciated more in The Maritimes than they are in their own province. I know anytime there is word of The Hip coming around everyone I know is snatching up tickets.
That's nothing compared to some of the hatred i've seen in kingston. yes, there is a huge following, but i know a lot of people who still see them as "a glorified bar band who had enough cash behind them to get famous"

I teach a Popular Culture class at an ESL College...We've been doing a lot of studies in lyrics lately (To hear a bunch of confused Venezuelans understand what "I was born in a crossfire hurricane" means yesterday after 45 minutes was a real treat, to say the least...) and I've been debating which Hip tune to look over...Wheat Kings comes to mind, but I'm still wondering which tune would be best t'introduce the band to. Lots of pressure.

I say we make a poll to see which Hip song could have the most different interpretations amongst us, and then unleash that upon them

My old English teacher was a big Hip fan.
I did a three page analysis on the structure and meaning of 'Scared' once, and summarized it in presentation. She liked it. :thumb:
