Well, more than 2 recognized the song when they heard it.

It was such a weird feeling to listen to students read this as a text and look at 25 out of 27 students following along who had never heard the song before. They had a lot of fun trying to interpret it. Of course at first they were very proud of themselves because they thought they had it all figured out saying it was about Hurricane Katrina! 'Excellent guess' I said. There were 2 students who not only heard the song before but had seen the HIP live and were talking about it to the class and one of them pulled out an Ipod and played NOIS for the class to listen to

A petition MIGHT work, but I highly doubt it. I have a hard time trying to find other people around here who share my love of The Hip. Most times I see The Hip mentioned somewhere it's followed by comments from people who don't like them...
Actually, there was a thread called "Dumbest lyrics of all time" on another board I frequent and one of the first replies was "anything written by Gord Downie" Followed with replies agreeing with the comment...
There seems to be a real hate-on for the boys in this area and I can't quite understand it. Actually now that I think about it, people around here seem to be quite jealous of anyone who has had any success in their lives.
It actually seems to be that The Hip are appreciated more in The Maritimes than they are in their own province. I know anytime there is word of The Hip coming around everyone I know is snatching up tickets.
