Not exactly news. Pearl Jam has been sleeping with them since 1996. They fought the good fight back in '94, but it's tough to bring down an entertainment empire as powerful as Ticketbastard. I remember they tried playing alternative venues for their "No Code" tour, but it was a complete disaster. So they had no choice but to crawl back to Ticketbastard if they wanted to keep playing live.

I think it's the Vitalogy tour you're thinking about--that was the one with the cancelled dates, the weird venues and the ultimate cancellation after Eddie's illness in San Francisco. The No Code tour ran relatively smoothly, and all the gigs were in non-TM venues (with the exception of Toronto, since Ticketmaster Canada was deemed different enough from Ticketmaster US). After that, however, it was play ball with Ticketmaster or stop playing altogether. I know some people read this as "selling out", but to me it was simply a matter of pragmatism. Or evolution, baby.

One thing about Ticketmaster: as much as it's the bane of my existence, when it works it's vastly superior to anything else out there (at least that I've experienced...thoughts?). Anyone who's ever had the pleasure of doing a 10Club onsale knows what I'm talking about... :roll:

You know the thing about this is, if he had planned on doing such a small tour by himself no less, he likely could have avoided ticketshithead. It's just a bit of a drag to see Ed giving up on what he fought for years ago. I don't think Ed and PJ have been "Sleeping" with those wanks for years, but I don't think they've been resisting them much either.

It just seems like Ed had a real oppurtunity here. You know he'll be draping these shows in his usual pre-election fervour. It'd be nice if he had something good to say about what he's doing.

in all fairness, i know he doesn't need the money, but it's his job essentially, and he's damn good at it...one of the best IMO, so why shouldn't he be paid accordingly?

Agreed, if it was Gord charging that amount you wouldn't complain about the cost. I haven't been folowing the thread, but I am willing to bet that some proceeds are going to a charity of some sort.

I couldn't agree more. "Into the Wild" is a fantastic album. The movie is excellent too!
