I especially enjoyed Gord's comment about not knowing who "that guy" was that put out Coke Machine Glow, and that he'd like to meet him. I remember thinking back in 2001 that it was an odd move for Gord, making such a departure from the Hip to do this project. I went back and read the whole book a few weeks ago, and it made me realize how much I, myself, have changed in the last 8 years. I found that certain poems meant more to me than they did in 2001, and some of them that hit hard in 2001 did nothing for me, reading them now. Has this happened with anyone else?

I'm actually about to re-read Coke Machine Glow (as soon as I can find it). I had thought about this last week on the drive to Boston while thinking a bit about what the band means to me and how they've shaped my life, not only as a fan of rock and roll, but in a much grander scheme of things.

Some days I want to meet the kid I was in 2001, just to say hi. Sometimes I'm sure I'd give him a sock in the jaw. Others, he'd probably (literally) beat me to the punch.
