It's actually kinda funny you would say that. Apparently it was the first time they actually didn't work together that closely. Paul came up with the concept and wrote most of the tracks himself, and then John added bits here and there during the recording process.
Perhaps it's that they compliment each other so well on that album.Wether it's songs that are obviously Mccartney (fixing a hole) or Lennon (lucy in the sky) etc, or the ones that they work on together so wonderfully (getting better, day in the life) they album just works so well as they have laid the songs out. Let's also not forget Ringo's crowning achievemnt as a singing Beatle.
