I like some of U2's music but the band disgusts me. Bono thinks he's a saint, thinks he's Nelson Mandela or something.

I disagree. I don't think that's how Bono views himself at all. I recently watched a fantastic documentary on the situation in Africa, and he was quoted as saying that he thinks celebrity is silly and ridiculous, but that it's also a currency, and you can use that currency to do good things. When it comes to the charities he's involved with, he obviously does his research. Say what you want about him, but the guy knows his shit and he puts his money where his mouth is. At least he's using his fame to try and make some kind of difference, which is more than you can say for a lot of other celebrities of his ilk. If I had the kind of money and power that U2 has, I like to think I'd be doing the same thing.
