A pathetic attempt to rehash past glories.

For some reason - probably integrity of the artist - I'm not holding my breath for an acoustic Day For Night.
Yeah, I don't neccessarily agree with doing an acoustic version of an old album but it's all good. Jagged Little Pill is one FANTASTIC FANTASTIC ALBUM!! It's one of my favourite albums and definitely one of the best albums of the 90's.
I hated that album when it came out, and I still hate it now. An acoustic version certainly isn't gonna change my opinion. However, I've actually grown to like Alanis over the last few years. I think her albums have gotten progressively better since Jagged Little Pill, and I definitely respect her for writing, performing and producing her own stuff. Didn't she win a Juno for best producer a couple years back for Under Rug Swept?

This is the best part of the article:
Quote:The acoustic version of "Jagged Little Pill" goes on sale at Starbucks stores on June 13, and arrives at traditional outlets six weeks later.

If that's not really selling out, I don't know what is!

lol Tongue It's all good. I just love the raw emotion in the songs. I can't deny my love for that album.

Yeah, she might be selling out but she can feel happy about the fact that she'll never reach the bar U2 has set for selling out. Big Grin

Couldn't disagree with you more. Alanis is the poster child of "selling out". She goes from teeny-bopper in the late 80s (the popular music at that time) to angry grunge in '94 (the popular music at that time). When her record sales start to slow down she starts showing up in movies and TV shows. And now that that hasn't worked out she's re-recording her biggest album, and releasing it through STARBUCKS.

Ah! Ya beat me to it! Yup, that says it all. "Can you maybe put some sprinkles on my grande kitchy pop disc please?"

Gotta go with cferneyh on this one. Sure, U2 did the whole ipod thing with Apple, but may I remind you it's been widely reported that NO MONEY changed hands between the two. And I've certainly never seen any of U2's albums on sale at a freakin' coffee shop. If U2 wanted to sell out, they'd have to make themselves look a little younger, change their fashion style, spike their hair, write some songs about being mad at your parents, and put out a pop-punk/emo record.

Having said that, I still kinda like Alanis.

...or write more of the same fluffy, over-emotional ballads...oh wait they just did that...... I like some of U2's music but the band disgusts me. Bono thinks he's a saint, thinks he's Nelson Mandela or something. The guys were always good, I just never considered any of their music that great. This "world's best band" stuff just makes me laugh.

Anyway, yeah.....I agree that Alanis sells out but I'll never say that "Jagged Little Pill" is a bad record. I think it's a masterpiece and I don't think she sold out with that record at all. I certainly can't see a correlation between Alanis and Nirvana or Alice in Chains or anything. The girl was a teeny bopper and then had a dark period where she wrote some great songs. Now she's over that and she's older and happier and her music reflects that. "JAGGED LITTLE PILL" is still a gem in my books!
i cant just beleive that was 10 years ago. god im getting old Cry

Agreed. I'm glad I'm not the only one who considers U2 overrated.

Same here. Still love it as much as I did 10 years ago. It's one of those discs I can play from beginning till end and never get bored. :thumb:
I wouldn't say reissuing an old album is "selling out." It's the music business, after all. Taking advantage of the popularity of your music isn't selling out. Tailoring your music to commercial interests ... that's selling out.

No, reissuing an old album in all-acoustic form is simply admitting that you're washed up and have nothing new to offer. It's like giving all your friends shirts that read, "I'm with the hack." Heck, you have to distribute something like this through Starbucks. Using the normal distribution channels would just look desperate.

JLP was her best album, and it had only one major flaw: Alanis herself.* Then she tried to put out more JLPs by discarding all that made JLP listenable while cranking up all that made it obnoxious. That failed. Should we be surprised that she's going back to what worked?

I can picture her sitting there, racking her brain, trying to figure out what she did right on JLP. "Well, slap me with a splintered ruler," she says. "I can't figure it out. Let's just do it again."

I just gotta know, how would you feel if the hip did this? Something tells me some of you would run out and buy one.

Remember the unplugged series they had on MTV? Very popular show, it was great! I've got the KISS Unplugged album!

Please don't say THE HIP WOULD NEVER DO THAT! I'm just saying what if they did? Would you think they sold out?!
