I'm surprised that it hasn't been mentioned yet...today is the 29th anniversary of the wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald.

"At Old Mariners Church in Detroit, the Rev. Richard Ingalls, church rector, has been conducting the ceremony since the accident. On the morning the sinking was confirmed, he came to the church and rang the bell one chime for each hand lost at sea. After that, he said, the community asked him to keep up the remembrance publicly."

I can imagine the emotion of this year's annual memorial service; the 29th anniversary of the loss of 29 souls...
