It's not radio friendly by any means (Which is good for us, bad for marketing) and I think was a poor choice for a single, let alone a major U.S. single.
Should be great live though, as Gord really pushes his voice... unfortunately, I don't think it'll be great any place else.
Agreed. I've given it at least ten listens and it's definitely different, and not in the best way (in my opinion). After falling head over heels in love with Vaccination Scar after the very first listen, this song is a bit of a let down.
I agree it's definitely not a radio-friendly tune by any means, but I wouldn't jump the gun and call it a letdown just yet. On first listen I was loving the production, but not liking the song. On my second and third listen I started paying attention to the song structure and the lyrics, and then by the 4th listen, the melody had suddenly sank it's teeth into me and I was finally hooked. I LOVE the weird pauses, especially the last one when Gord lets out a "wooo!"
Listen to it a few more times. It'll grow on ya! :music
Valid points, and like I said, I'll probably learn to love it.
But, and it's a BIG but, this is supposed to be a US radio single that grabs the attention of folks right away and drives them to buy the album. Radio singles, as we all know, all art aside, are done for a specific purpose... and I don't think this track achieves that purpose.
I'm not calling it a dissapointment, but I really think it's a song only a fan could love, and sadly won't earn the repeated listenings it deserves from Joe and Jane six-pack. They'll likely dismiss it as "weird" upon first listening; thus defeating the prupose of a promo single.
Personally, 10 hours later, the tune is slowly endearing itself to me...
