Never heard of them myself....Here is a clip from EYE weekly's review of his album Truthfully Truthfully, which made their top 20 albums of 2003 list:
JOEL PLASKETT EMERGENCY, Truthfully Truthfully (Maplemusic/Universal): Right from the first spin, Truthfully Truthfully sounds so comfortably familiar it can evoke memories you don't even have. Playfully weaving together '70s power pop, new wave, reggae and blues, Plaskett settles into his influences with style, wit and the best hooks of his career.

He's good .. really good. I've seen Joel perform atleast 15 times in the past year and he always puts on a great show. His drummer, Dave Marsh is really solid as well. Joel either brings Ian or Tim to play bass with him.
He used to front a band called Thrush Hermit about 10 years ago. He now has three solo albums.
The Joel Plaskett Emergency are from Halifax.
They are a standard three piece rock band.

They rock. That's all you need to know. I saw them live a couple months ago here in Calgary and ended up buying their new disc immediately after the show. Great songs, great melodies, and a great live show. Don't miss them!
