Rolling Stone basically exists as a vehicle to make The Strokes the most famous band on the planet, (They are mentioned 4 times in the Sheepdogs article.) and we see how successful they've been.

Speaking as an American (in Alabama, which is about as "south of the border" as Canadians can get and still be in the US) I found the remark uncalled-for. The Hip have long been my favorite band, and their lack of popularity in the US stems from the music establishment not giving them airtime. If more people heard them, they would be popular here, too.

This has made me un-lurk. Back to it, though.

I canceled Rolling Stone several years ago. It's a political rag with some reviews of music (with a lot of pop stuff).

And I like KOL (and a hundred more bands).

Where do you live?

Keep it local. I find weekly alternatives papers usually have more relevant music news. Though it's still a business that caters to advertisers more than readers, weeklies know who their readership is instead of having to pander to a mass audience.

However, Under The Radar is great for actual interviews. Check it out.

Thanks for the Under the Radar recommendation. Good stuff. I used to check Chartattack for my Canadian music news but they seem to have disappeared. Not that it was great, but nothing local covers the Hip, SRB, Big Sugar, etc... and there's so many good bands it's time consuming to check all their sites regularly for news. I actually just found out about the new Big Sugar album last week.
