I could be way off on this one, but 275K to cover opening acts (3 including Hawksley Workman), security, insurance, police and emergency services, support staff, etc seems like a stretch. More than anything I was surprised at the 400K price tag for Das Hips, not that I don't think they are worth it, on the contrary I think they deserve it, but I just didn't think they were hauling in that much for a 15K attendance gig. Good on them!

Speaking as someone who used to book bands, and who once looked into bringing the Hip to his campus (in their hometown, no less), I feel relatively qualified to say the costs associated with this sort of venture would blow people's minds. First and foremost, you'd need a venue or, if it's an open area, an actual stage. You'd need a place for the soundboard; you'd need a place for the spotlights. You'd need barriers--lots of 'em. You'd need a backstage area, replete with one helluva spread for the band, its crew, staff...everyone, really (and you're either catering or you're paying the band in lieu, which is expensive). There has to be merch; there have to be concessions, and presumably some sort of liquor license for the day. Ultimately, the band's fee is only a teeny, tiny part of it.
When we were looking into the Hip, we were talking charity show--i.e., book a few bands, then take whatever you'd pay them/anything left over and give it to Camp Trillium. I think if anyone's trying to do a private Hip concert, that's the way to do it, mostly becaue Camp Trillium's pretty awesome and the band members are noted supporters. (By the way, when I say "looking into the Hip," we never got beyond the exploration stage--but still, it's worth pondering.)

Back in 2004( I think) a town called Bay Roberts in Newfoundland inquired about the hip headlining their outdoor festival during the summer. I know one of the key organizers and over a bottle of beer he told me that it would have cost at least 200K to get them to play. I'm sure that indoor shows would cost less.

400K for the Stratford appearance, that seems way, way high. There couldn't have been much more than 15K people there so the math just doesn't work out. Mind you, the beer tent line ups were ridiculous so maybe thats where the promoter's revenue came from. Either that or Bobnoxious played for free, which is about what they're worth.
Whatever dude...Bobnoxious rocks and deserves more credit than that!!
Actually the band was ok, the problem was mostly the abnoxious crew we were standing by who where picking fights with anybody that came close to them. My 10 year old son ended up with a bloddy nose because of these a-holes. Obviously we moved away but there was a lot of this type of behaviour during their set. Didn't mean to diz the band.
