gilmour wanted to play one last year, and who can blame after the amazing reception by leaf fans when he got traded back. i think he felt like he owed it to the fans of toronto to play another year. the new gm however didnt want him on the team. and the leafs were the only team that he would play another year for.
in response to jkdiamond, just because he older than in his prime, doesnt mean he cant contribute. look at wendal clack coming back to the leafs twice. he was never the player that he was, but he still did get some clutch goals in the "4 minutes" of ice time he got
oh yeah, and how old is joe nieuwendyk???
right.........
Newendyke is 37, had a 57% give or take in faceoff percentage, which is one of the best in the league. Was a main factor b4 he was hurt for Jersey and is still a great defensive forward, as well as being able to contribute offensively.
Clark, who we all loved seeing back in Toronto his last yr, didnt contribute at all in fact he sat any of the games. Please, its sad to see players play long past they should.

Please that was Clarks last season and he spent it between chicago and toronto, If you call then contribution, I dont know what you would call not contributing.
So which of the 4 goals between the 2 teams was clutch.
This wasn't the '85-'94 Clark. In his second stint he was good, not a great player but not bad. Too bad they gave up so much to get him back. In his 3rd stint it was so he could retire a leaf, exactly what happend with Gilmour he retired a leaf. 41 with a bad knee, not knowing if he was going to recover and tying up significant money, doesnt take a genius to realize there were other players to try and sign before Gilmour.
So, man feel free to flame me again, but the fact of the matter is, as much as i loved him. I'd rather they put their young players in to learn, so that eventually I can see them win a Stanley Cup. As much fun as it is to see some of these old guys skating up and down the ice on their last legs. I'll take some guys that never were with this team before and a chance to win.
