I think it was the '96 tour where Gord sarcastically remarked from the stage during their Vancouver show: "We'd like to thank Bruce Allan for making us famous." .

I seem to remember this.
Was it from a show or an interview?
Does anyone remember which show?
The only vancouver one I see is 11-10-96.

OK, I'll just add my voice to the chorus here...

IBE is a great record. I had quibbles with M@W and IVL, sure, but they're both still full of great songs. I'd like the Hip to have more mainstream recognition, but only if they do it on their terms. I don't think radio airplay is necessarily a reflection of good songwriting. From what I hear when I turn on the radio, in the words of Henry Rollins, it's looking pretty mediocre out there.

I agree that IBE is the best of their recent albums, but I don't know if I'd go that far. Vacc Scar, in particular, highlights the weakness of a lot of their recent songwriting. Oddly, the record company chose not to release the strongest songs on the album as singles, opting instead for the weakest.

Now, if they made a better record than IBE, that would be a killer record. And that's what I think they "need" to do.

I think with BOB ROCK at the helm we will have a strong album.
But I am NOT a fan of slow or mellow tunz.
I like straight ahead rockers like RINK and DROP OFF and IN VIEW !!
Some will argue that OCEAN, FLY and PRETEND are great songs,
but like I said I prefer the harder stuff.
This then is 6 of a possible 10-12 cuts.
3 rockers and 3 average ones.
Which means there's alot that we haven't heard yet.
I was pleasantly surprised with IN VIEW so I will keep an open mind.
I will pray they kick my ass with an album we can all be happy and proud of !

Hey guys...new to the board...long time fan.

I find it a little disturbing that Bob Rock/Bob Allen seem to be speaking in terms of pushing the Hip in a more commercial direction. If anything, I think the producer should challenge them more in terms of an creative/artistic vision.

Anyhow I'll let the album come out before I make some massive judgement.

Honestly, this guy is a serious douche. Don Smith and Steve Berlin have put out great records with the band and for good reason. This seems like some real glam rock bullshit.

Don Smith and Adam Kasper were probably the two best producers the Hip ever worked with. Also, Mark Howard for the brilliant DFN. Anyway, I'm sure the Bob Rock produced album will be great. Here's to hoping anyway.
