I don't really think I agree with the end of that statement by Bruce Allen. The Hip have made a ton of great records and that's why the are still around!

Replace the word "better" with "more commercial" and I think I know Allen's reason for what he said. I don't think quality even matters to Bruce Allen. Sales do.

I wouldn't agree with that, I think their last few albums have been great. In my opinion there has never been a dip in the hip's catalouge, every album has been solid and enjoyable from start to finish.

Bruce Allan is a douchebag. If I'm not mistaken he used to say some pretty nasty things about the Hip back in the day during their rise to fame. It was no secret how much he hated them. I think it was the '96 tour where Gord sarcastically remarked from the stage during their Vancouver show: "We'd like to thank Bruce Allan for making us famous." It was odd enough when I first heard that Bob Rock was going to produce the album, but I had no idea that Allan was his manager. Very strange.

You're probably right. Either that or this is his way of begrudgingly giving them kudos for being around for so long when he figured they'd probably disappear after Road Apples. He probably thought to himself "well, if they're in the hall of fame, I guess they're worthy enough now to work with my beloved client Bob Rock."

I'm usually not this hateful, but Bruce Allen is a dink. I actually didn't have anything against Bob Rock until I found out Bruce Allen was his manager. Now I think Rock must be the Devil's minion on Earth.

I agree, and I was worried about the Bob Rock thing before I knew Allen was his manager, but I'm still going to give Rock the benefit of the doubt until I hear the rest of the new album. It sounds like both parties had a great time making the record together, and I don't think the Hip would choose to work with a particular producer unless they were comfortable with the situation...so I'm still hopeful that the album will kick ass.

But if it turns out to be crap, I hope for the Hip's sake that they RUN back to Adam Kasper as fast as they can to record the follow-up.
