Out of exile-Audioslave
#16

loved the new single from the moment I heard it, I was so pissed I didn't get tickets to see them in Detroit a couple weeks ago...

however a friend of mine works at immigration at the windsor-detroit tunnel and all 4 of the guys went into the building and he got a signed copy of their first CD... lucky for me, he doesn't really care for audioslave so I bought it off him! Very cool, wouldn'tya say!

I thought their first album was excellent... and the video for "Show Me How to Live" was the best music video of 2004 IMO (actually the video for "The Outsider" by A Perfect Circle was pretty good too -- gotta love the Bikini Bandits Big Grin).

Anyway, me and my girlfriend were talking about them and their lyrics, and it really seems like their songs have like a religious tone to them....

ie, from "Like a Stone:"

"I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good we'll lay to rest
Anywhere you want to go "

...or...

"On my deathbed I will pray
To the gods and the angels
Like a pagan to anyone
Who will take me to the heavens
To a place I recall
I was there so long ago
The sky was bruised
The wine was bled
And there you held me on"

anyway, that's my .02

know what, i'm really not impressed with the new album. after hearing be yourself i was totally pumped up and after listening to the new album for the last two weeks it just is not doing the trick... I'm trying to get into it but I don't think it's going to happen. Don't get me wrong, there are 3 or 4 good songs, but not a worthy follow up to their debut cd. imo.

hopefully it grows on me, I'll keep trying

I agree for the most part, I've listened to the new album a few times and save for a couple songs, it really isn't that great, I wouldn't label these guys as a "supergroup" there really isnt anything that super about them, yes they are talented individuals but together they are nothing compared to their former bands. When they first formed I thought they would be huge, but its really been more of a let-down than anything. The Audioslave songs just sound too much alike, over and over and its gets to be quite annoying after awhile, I can't remember the last time I listened to the first album. But to their credit they have some cool guitar riffs and "Be Yourself" is a cool song, I cant stop listening to that one right now.

I really think the first half of the album rocks... but then I lose interest. Or maybe I just start to reminisce about Soundgarden & Rage & how much I liked them back in their haydays.
Chris Cornell has a great voice, but like LizardKing said, it just starts to get annoying after a while.
