Maybe Hipbase can convince them to put together a live, intimate DVD specially marketed to the fans? I think that would be great, but the cost and logistics wouldn't make it worth the band's while. Till they do something, we can only wait and place our sacrifices on the altar of the Holy Gord :lol:

I'd have to agree on the part where TTH never follow the current trend of the minute. As much as we'd all love to see the hip in 5.1, they'll never do it just becuase we'd want it. And like ya said everyone and their garage band buddies are pumping out dvd's of every gig the do, which is their perogative but I think It'll make it all the more sweet to wait for a bit longer, and remember young padawans; Avoid trends and cliches, don't try to be up to date and when that sunlight hits the olive-oil, don't hesitate, nights so long it hurts My Music @ Work................. :jump :jump :jump :jump

I do feel that a DVD is on the horizon. Like all other things Hip I'm sure it will be worth the wait. As for formats: DTS? Maybe. Dolby Digital 5.1? More likely. Surround EX (6.1 or 7.1 surround)? Who cares. What matters most to me is that the release is shot in anamorphic 16x9 widescreen. I don't want to wait years for the best band out there to finally release a concert and then have that performance instantly date itself on any new tv I buy (or have bought) by not having the proper aspect ratio. Pearl Jam has come around to this (finally!) after their first two dvds were shot in the traditional 4x3 aspect ratio. Their two most recent releases, Showbox and NYC, look more theatrical and have been filmed with the future in mind, as all US televisions are switching their shape to widescreen.
The Hip have lead the way with many new technologies (they were the first band I knew of to make extensive use of the internet, the hyperCD releases they did a while ago) and have recently infused their releases with great sound and even HDCD on their most recent two full lengths. I'd be suprised if they were'nt forward thinking enough to have already thought of this aspect issue.
ps. While that above request (16x9) should be a no-brainer, I have also thought of a bonus feature that would be ultra cool for Hip fans. DVDs have the "alternate angle" feature available. While I'm sure the concert we'll get will spend much of its show focusing on its lead singer (like any band's does), I would expect many other shots of the rest of the band to be intermixed throughout the show in ways that highlight their solos and talents; I wouldn't want it any other way. However, as a special feature, "Gordcam" would be a nice option. Have the footage from the front and center camera guy (who would follow Gordie the whole way) be an alternate angle track! :lol:

for a music cd best format is DTS....you can hear a slight difference in the Led Zep DVD....IMO Zepplin did the DVD release perfect and the streaming between the different shows is flawless.. Its a fantastic listen and considering the age of teh recording its incredible how they sound...if only we could get something the the extent zepplin ddi from the hip, I would be in music heaven

i wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a DVD. it seems that over the years, the Hip have lost touch with their fans.
for many years they were active in keeping the fans up to date on the happenings in the band. they used to mail out the Tales From the Hip, they introduced the hyper cd's (a project they never finished), and they used to keep their website up to date.
now, we have the Hip Club which has not been updated since July and really only has a couple updates since it's creation. their website hasn't changed since IVL was released (m. also, they decided to do a "western" canada theatre tour which left over half the country out in the cold.
i know that there hasn't been much to report lately, but the least they could do is keep their fans updated on the recording process. maybe they could post their thoughts on what the new record might sound like. things like that would get this community talking again and possibly spark interest in a new tour, etc.

I remember back in the hay-day when TTH was setting the world on fire and they sent us all our Tales from the Hip, I used to love getting those thingz in the mail :jump Made me feel like they were actaully thinking aboot me. But then ofcourse email/internet became the creature comfort and pooof my Tales was gone
True enough on the Hyper cd's as well. When they un-veiled The Hip Club I had really high hopes for that but ya its seldomly updated. Maybe its only used for tourz or something. But you might say they have slowed down a notch or two, and really its the only plauseble explanation after so much touring,they've kept a steady beat as far as album realleases are concerned( 1 every 2 years) some bandz break for 2 to 5 years .. I'm trying to balance the weigh scales out some. They are only human after all. So that Zeppelin kicks some serious hoop ya say?

While I see where y'all are coming from, I think we should be grateful that we got M@W, CMF, IVL, BOTN and now the new record all in fairly short order. These guys, and Gord and particular, are very hardworking. He applies that whole "use it all up" philosophy in his work ethic, which he really doesn't have to do. I mean, they certainly have enough money now to rest on their laurels. AC/DC have been known to release all of one or two albums a decade, and that's with no solo projects and some pretty costly concert tickets. I feel we really can't afford take the Hip for granted. Especially with Gord's blossoming solo music/poetry career and renewed interest in smaller venues, any album could be their last. (They're under contract for a few more, but that hasn't stopped other artists from being dropped, buying out, or just doing compilations to kill time). As for the Hip club, I think that was mostly a vehicle for getting some of the outtakes released, which I'm certainly glad they did. Maybe their reach exceeded their grasp on that one, but I give them credit for trying.
Nick Drake has this huge cult (of which I am a devoted member), and the man's been dead for decades. He released three albums. That's it. I think his fans would kill for just a little bit of the action we've been seing lately.

It's A Good Life If You Don't Weaken. It would take some wind out of my sails if I didn't have some new Hip music to look forward to. I feel we have been lucky that the band has put out a new CD about every two years.
Since the last tour the thought has crossed my mind that The Hip may not continue to put out music at their current pace, or that something might happen to break them apart. The Hip have some longevity and still seem to be good friends. I also agree that all the guys seem to have a hardworking attitude. I need to have a constant flow of new Hip material and I want to watch as the band continues to evolve from album to album.
I hope TTH have a discography a long as The Rolling Stones or better.
