Does anybody appreciated Rush? I mean come on... they're pushing 30 years as one of the biggest Canadian bands year in and year out... They are SO talented... aww well...

The way I see it is, every person or band in front of the hip has made a impact in the U.S. I just hope the hip aren't next to break in the U.S. I would love for people to enjoy the hip, but most of the american music industry is shit. Between Brittney Spears,Ja-rule and shitty punk bands it makes me sick. I love my country but music in this country has gone to total shit. That's why I love living near canada, where I can get good canadian rock that hasn't been ruined by suits in the U.S. Well that's my 2 cents. GO HIP! :thumb:

Oops. I forgot about April Wine, Rush and The Headstones. I hereby revise this list. You guys were right to call me on not listing Rush. Those guys are great musicians.

I love and appreciate what Rush has done for music, but if you ask me, their live shows are very visually entertaining, but stale musically. I mean, who wants to hear Limelight or The Spirit of Radio damm near close to studio sound? I loved it at my last Rush show where Alex started doing a little stream of consciousness ditty and the milwaukee show where Neil and Geddy did a funky drum and bass country improv while Alex was replacing his broken strings.

Don't you think they deserve to be in the top 20?
I understand that Rush's live shows are virtually a carbon-copy of their studio work, but what they have done in the studio continues to amaze me. Rush deserve a lot more credit than they have recieved. I still think Neil Peart is the greatest drummer ever ( although I don't want to start this again... see Drum Tabs in Musicians and Music ), and Geddy is probably up there as one of the greatest bassists as well ( not to mention Alex Lifeson who is a machine and powerhouse on the guitar ), . I think Rush belongs EASILY in the top ten... I can't see any reason Nickelback should beat them... recycled pop garbage can not ever outdo the stream of originality and ultimate musicianship the Rush trio has graced this great country with...
I happen to like Limelight and The Spirit of Radio, and when I have the time I listen to 2112 and The Fountain of Lamneth...

Gordon Downie doesn't deserve to be #5...don't get me wrong its phenominal music, but look at it objectively, he's only put out 2 albums, and lets be honest they were both great but not absolutely mind blowing. And we're talking 20 years man....
Hopefully, i won't be eaten alive saying this lol.

I agree that CMG was not mindblowing, but in my oppinion Battle of the Nudes is one of the very best Canadian albums I have ever heard, or even albums in general. It's fresh, original, full of thoughtful and unique lyrical ideas, and it covers the whole spectrum of rock n' roll/folk music, both lyrically and musically, in about half an hour. Gord gives us intellectual stuff, fun stuff, serious stuff, and plenty of experimental stuff, which somehow seems to always work. I wish I could say the same of CMG. That album feels kindof like a bunch of Hip outtakes to me. It has it's moments, but also some dross that probably shouldn't be there.
If Daniel Langois and Kate Fenner aren't on the list, it's because I'm not familiar with their work. Blue Rodeo have always struck me as a bit bland. Perhaps Roy-at-TTH would care to post his own list? I don't know all canadian artists, after all.

Good other pics though - i mean, music is a funny thing cuz what could sound aboslutely brutal to one person would sound extraordinary to the next.
