After hearing Rink live and then repetedly on the Pittsburg boot, I'm digging that song. It's got a cool vibe to it. I think it will grow on everybody. But i like the weird songs anyway.

Yeah, it has grown on me too. The thing is, or at least, why I say that it shouldn't be the lead single, is that the majority of hip songs have that elusive quality, those hidden melodies that you pick up after several listens, but in terms of the fickle attention span of a radio cruiser, or average person, I don't think Lonely End of the Rink will be as effective as a single to fulfill the purposes of a lead single -- if we suppose that the lead single's purpose is to lure people in, have wide appeal so as to get the song in people's heads and have them eventually buy the album. Once they have the album, then they'll listen to the other songs often, and discover those hidden melodies.

By those standards I think that Try or The drop off has more of that immediate charm, and would definitely resonate among people a lot better than Lonely End.

But I mean, all this is just my opinion and my standards, so its all very subjective, y'know?

I still say its "No one is No one", although yours makes more logical sense, I just can't hear the "wants"

thanks Cap! i prefer to see it as none of us is wrong or right - we're all in this together. With this tune in particular, only the collective efforts of everyone will decipher what Gord is really saying.

I forgot to add that the last line of the song where I put "??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???" sounds to me something about the a key in the lock and jiggling the door. I'm still trying to pin it down exactly.

if you have winamp, use the EQ to bring all 10 dials down completely. take the sixth dial from the left (3K) and crank it to the top, plus bring up your preamp a few db. this seems to help bring out gord's vocals while muting the instruments.

Aw, I'm good at this sort of thing and I can't listen to a clear version.

My wife doesn't like it when I download new programs onto her computer, and I need some sort of program to do a torrent, right? As you can tell, aside from the word processor, email, and blogger I have no idea how to use computers.

What's the easiest way for me to hear a version of the drop-off (other than the download-of-the-week version)?

There's something called Shareeza on this computer but barely anything comes up at all if I search the Hip.

Please be patient with the idiot. :oops:
