I always figured that the line with "seen" insted of "heard" was just a quirky way to get people to remember the song. I mean, no ones' forgotten it. But I support the 'stadium noise' theroy as well. M'eh. Either way, it's still an incredible song.

I don't think that's it, since the goal that everyone remembers was scored in Russia, so Gord must've been "sitting beside you" on a couch somewhere watching it on TV. So if she said she didn't give a fuck about hockey at that point, he would have been able to hear it and not just see it.

I think he's just being colloquial and alliterative: "s.aw s.omeone s.ay" vs. "h.eard s.omeone s.ay".
