typical west coast reaction eh?? you wonder why we feel like that?? sure..i'm all for rivalries...but let's face it...all canadian teams should have a rivalry...and wow..the leafs play five times outside the eastern time zone...i guess during that week we'll hear about what a grueling road trip it is.....you tell the habs and leafs fans in vancouver that they should like this new schedule....put all the canadian teams in one conference...what's wrong with that??

First on Goodenow, I wasnt aware of his family situation until today, thats tough, but it was time for him to move on anyways. Secondly, yeah it would be nice to see more Tor/Hab/Canuck/Flames/Oilers matchups I know there are alot of Leaf-Hab fans across Canada, but when Edmonton or Calgary come to Montreal to play its never been a huge event, not like with Toronto, and in the past with Quebec. But I would like it to be. Im in favor of the new scheduling, maybe the problem is the way the teams are aligned? Toronto had great rivalries against Chicago and Detroit as I recall back when they were in the west conf. I think Chicago and Detroit should be in the Eastern conference? I would align the conferences this way:

West

Canucks
Oilers
Flames
Ducks
Kings
Coyotes
Predators
Blues
Stars
Avalanche
Sharks
Wild
Capitals
Panthers
Lightning

East

Habs
Leafs
Senators
Rangers
Devils
Penguins
Red Wings
Blackhawks
Sabres
Flyers
Hurricanes
Thrashers
Blue Jackets
Islanders

I guess the biggest knock on that alignment is having the Florida teams in the West, but I hate the Florida teams so they can lick it, they get to live in eternal sunshine, so they can suck it up and travel more. The only way to get more "Canadian" rivalries would be to switch 3 teams from the east to the west and bring Van,Cal and Edm to the east, that will never happen. My other big beef with the conferences is that when playoff time comes its east vs. west, I think it should be co-mingled based on points, that way there is the possibility of a Habs-Leafs final, or a Oilers-Flames final, yeah it probably wouldnt happen anyway, but in this system it definitely wont happen, in my system it could happen. And it would make it more fair if lets say a team in the west has 80 points and doesnt make the playoffs and a team in the east has 76 points and makes the playoffs in my system the team with more points would get in instead, and rightly so [imo]. I still think Nashville, Anahiem, Tampa and Florida should be booted out of the league. Give teams back to Winnipeg, Quebec and maybe another Canadian city?

Imagine a world before the "beginning was the word.”

Yeah and you will never get over it by the sounds of it..
Canadian teams in the same conference... sounds good to me. Maybe if you are the next Commish, you can propose that  .
Are you a transplanted easterner or always a westerner?
Why can"t the calgary's edmonton's and Vancouvers develope there own great rivalry, I know Calgary and EDM already have one, Does Vancouver feel like there are being left out??? boo hooo
Get over it, the west is great there will be great competion, i don't think YOu need the Habs and Leafs to make it even better.

we do have some great rivalries..colorado for one..and the flames...and to a lesser degree the wild, but really..i've always been a westerner...and the "boo hoo" crack, yes..we hear that a lot..but back east, i don't think you get it...we laugh when we hear about "tough road trips" that the leafs have to go through..we travel all the time...there's nothing you can do about it really, but if we bring it up we're targeted as whiners Tongue

are the leafs and habs really only coming out west once every three years? I just moved out here (west) and will be really bummed if they only come 1 out of 3 years. Please tell me y'all are just exaggeratin'.

The owners won't get rid of Bettman... he did get them their cost certainty/salary cap, after all.

So the only way Bettman will leave is if he parks his ego, sees that his leaving will be the best for the game, and resigns.

Do you see that happening?

Yeah... me neither. :x

I agree that the travel for the west is crazy and tough, but I would think it will get somewhat better with this new scheduling, although I haven't check out the canucks sched.

It may help travel-wise (though I can't be sure, I haven't checked it out fully).

I do see your point, however... the Avs and Wild seem to be the 'Nucks bogeymen the last few years.

i was referring to the travelling, not the games themselves, although those 2 teams do seem to piss nuck fans off a lot!!!
