From a States perspective I have always admired the whole idea of following a band who embraces the patriodic or maybe purely Canadian nature of the Hip. The only band in the US that had that kind of appeal was Bruce and the East Streeters. We lack that purely American band right now.
The first time I seen the Hip was for the FC tour at Chene park in Detroit. Setting aside the unfortunate incident near the stage, I was blown away by not only the band but the atmosphere in the crowd. Yes, there are always wacky-asses who can't handle alcohol and who must act like they are at a frat party but that is expected and is the reality of a rock concert. Just don't Fuck with me or the band I say to these individuals.
Most Canadian fans at the US shows are cool and very knowlegable about the band. Some of the drunk goofballs are actually hilarious. As long as things don't get violent I don't care what people do at shows.
Going off subject here...I am going to make a prediction. I think the Hip's Best of cd will do pretty well here. Most everyone knows about them or has heard of them and I believe the curiosity will sell quite a few cds if it is marketed somewhat persistantly here in the States.
Ok Im really rabling now....PEACE YA'LL :thumb:

If consuming alcohol, singing on the way to, during, and from the concert, dancing, standing (that's right, I've been told to sit down by other fans at a hip concert as if we were watching a friggin orchestra), and generally having the party of the year constitutes "what's wrong" with hip fans, I don't want to be right.
I do agree, however, that in most cases, you might as well leave your Canadian flag at home. There are appropriate times for flag waving, but indoors at the nations capital in November (for example) is not one of them.

I dont think that agreeing with her that she should be pissed off at her country right now is "Anti-American." Because, 50% of the US is then Anti-American.
If you want some of that, I can certainly provide a list of fundamental grievances.

The collective "we" chanting "hip hip hip hip" comes with the territory. If the opening band gets upset about it, then they should be doing bar tours instead of nationwide arena tours..... it will happen almost no matter who you are or are opening for.
I think in a lot of cases, if the opening bands are pissed about anything, it's either that they're not big enough to play arenas, or that the arenas they are playing are full of empty seats during their set.

I did not want to come across as "Anti-American". I am definetly not.
Another problem that is common down here is being blasted for disagreeing with the current affairs of our government. If you have a problem with oh, lets say...The WMD'd fiasco, Haliburton, war for oil..blah blah blah..you are considered UN-AMERICAN, and should be boiled in oil. *
It's very frustrating..
* Although, that sentiment is waning..many more are doubting the war and our policies everyday..which is refreshing.
Oh, and for flags...Don't start me on Charlie Daniel/Marshall Tucker, (ect.. ) concerts and the Confederate flag...

This is fitting I think...

4 more years?
It's hard to say, at least Bush won't be able to win again.
The Dems have a serious problem on their hands and are not doing much to resolve it.
I live in the Bible Belt South, where ironically, many of the men and women who are in Iraq are from. These are rural, bible beating Southern families who have been separated for years, and we still don't have any answers to the many questions. Yet, the continue to vote Republican..it amazes me.
Hey weren't we talking about rowdies at shows!!!
I LOVE EM!!! (but I ain't bringing no flag)
I have Black Crowes and Widespread in the same week!!
