Where was this blurb taken from??
[quote]The player introductions, conducted by Fox commentator Joe Buck, were a made-for-TV special. The teams assembled along the baselines. Then, 41,886 fans stood, and someone sang the Canadian national anthem.
Then someone sang "The Star-Spangled Banner," you're thinking.
Nope.
Try this: The players, managers, trainers, batboys and 41,886 fans stood exactly where they were for 90 seconds, hats off, hands ready to be placed on their hearts, fidgeting and looking around while Fox took a commercial break.
"We were sort of wondering what happened," Red Sox pitcher and six-time All-Star Curt Schilling said. "Someone said, 'They're doing a commercial.' It gave me a chance to talk to (AL coach) Don Mattingly, I guess."
It also gave recent "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino a chance to warm up on the field. She eventually sang "The Star-Spangled Banner." Later, Ruben Studdard, another "American Idol" winner, sang "God Bless America."

I hope people realise that there are Americans who are just as much bothered by the idiots from the US as people from other nations are - if not even more so, since they're the ones who have to live with being blamed for what these idiots from the same country do.

From another post, relevance here:
I FINALLY heard it and saw it!
You all want to know what? Something went wrong.
Do any of you even know what went wrong?
Cuz I do. I can tell you, without a doubt, what went wrong. I should know....
Watch the video or listen to the song as you read this...
Hear that gasping? That's Gord out of breath...
I said it before in a post somewhere about high singers and low singers.
If Gord would've slowed it down, he would have mastered it.
Whether he got nervous or not, I don't know.
What I can tell you is that he's trying to sing loud by forcing more air into that mic.
Maybe he didn't practice? Maybe he did his usual voice warm-ups and thought nothing of it?
Someone mentioned that grin he had... Cuz he knew he was screwing up.
Sort of like, "Oh my God, what am I doing?" jokingly to himself...
80% of Canada couldn't've have done it as good as Gord did anyway.

I'm not sure why all the Canadian Hip fans are so amazed and pissed that Gord's O Canada wasn't televised. My (Canadian) wife and I sat there waiting just like all of you did, and we were definitely disappointed but not surprised. I even called my in-laws, who knew nothing about it, and had them waiting to see it.
The decision by Fox to cut to commercial is based on several things, including paying for the freakin' broadcast for starters. Also, most of the people in this country have no idea who Gord Downie is or the Hip for that matter. So why not cut to commercial? This is NOT a hockey game. Baseball is barely alive in Canada anymore. Canadians don't support the sport obviously, or at least not in Montreal.
I've seen the video and I have to say it was pretty bad, but not nearly as lame as that little idiot who sang the American National Anthem. I can't remember ever hearing that song sounding good. I can't stand American patriotism personally, but I also can't stand Canadian ultra-patriotism either.

why ? then if they were more popular then we all wouldn't have the access to them after shows to talk they would be swamped with fans
and be escorted to the bus / limo
plus you are moving to canada so you are moving where the hip are god
