My take: it's...definitely an album that exists by blue rodeo. (shrugs)

That's probably the best way to sum up this album... indifference. And speaking of Pearl Jam songs, the opening strum and organ of the first song on the album remind me of "Oceans". It's just three seconds but when I hear it I keep wanting Keelor to sing "Hold on to the thread..."

It's a grow-er not a show-er ?

I agree with that. Listened to it a few times, and was sort of "yeah, it's OK". Then listened this weekend on headphones walking the dogs in the snow. Time, place, and music all came together and it clicked much more for me. I am a big BR fan -- one of my kids is named after a member -- but I think the last few albums have been generally fine, not wow. Honestly, I think the last wow album for me was maybe Days in Between, and then they've settled into a very dependable groove afterwards.

This album sort of reminds me of Casino, especially in the first 2/3rds. I know that some of the press was about Jim and Greg singing more together, and that is obvious. Also with Greg's hearing issues, bit more acoustic based (though I really miss with more rocking songs and solos).

It's not groundbreaking. Jim still songs mostly about remembering how we got the girl. Greg sings about what he did to lose the girl. But another solid album.

I enjoyed it much more - maybe also in the right mood. I do think its a song or two too long. Seems over the past few albums they could have used an editor.

I sat right in front of Keelor and Cuddy at the Secret Path show last night in Halifax (poor bastards had to stare at my big melon all night!). Had a chance to chat with them for a while before the show. When the pre-concert "din" was picking up he turned to Jim and said, "I don't know if I'm going to be able to do this". He talked about finding out who the promotor was and going to get some musician's ear plugs. He missed a couple songs while tracking some down. It's obvious the hearing is a big issue for him.

I told him The Flame was my favourite Keelor tune on the album, especially the second half of the song and he said "Yeah, it's a pretty sweet little piece of prog rock!"

That's a great story, in spite of the sadness about Greg's ongoing hearing issues, it's cool that they're still friends and sit together at shows after 30 years.

i dont buy every blue rodeo new release and i don't see them every tour but this new cd is really great so i added 2 shows to my concert schedule
