It was on this day in 1995 The Almighty Tragically Hip made their debut on Saturday Night Live, two days before winning Juno awards for Entertainer and Group of the Year. The boys were introduced by another familiar face around Kingston, actor Dan Aykroyd. They performed Grace, Too and Nautical Disaster, both from their album Day for Night.

By far one of my favorite performances of that song. I still get chills when I watch that, especially when Gord starts goin' nuts during the outro. F'n brilliant. I remember I was at a house party the night this first aired. We had it on in the background, and nobody was really watching any of the comedy bits. But as soon as Dan Aykroyd introduced the band for their first song, the ENTIRE party got really quiet and gathered around the TV to watch. For Hip fans like me it was a major event for them to be appearing on that show.
