Every time I listen to Last American Exit I wish they could add a bit of reverb to it.

sooooooooooooo here I am Monday night...driving back to Rochester from Eldred, NY. I was visiting a friend for the weekend. So I'm sitting in the passenger seat when all of a sudden my friend's truck's front passenger side tire bearing breaks and we are stranded in the middle of Hancock, NY (at 10pm). After talking with some scary locals, we realized that we weren't going anywhere soon and decided to call AAA. They came and towed the truck back to Eldred while the friend I was visiting drove to Hancock to pick us up. Hancock is about an hour from Eldred which is about 4.5 hours from Rochester. Soooo (of course) my friend is racing to come get us because we are stuck in the middle of this random town which is shutdown and my cell phone died. My other friend that was with me only had 1 bar left. We started to freak out a little bit. okay now to the part where this actually relates to the interview...as my friend was driving, he turns on his FM radio. Nothing good on...so he decides to take a gander through the AM stations. what does he come upon but this interview. My friend knows the hip, he's a fan, but not a fan like us :roll:
so he hears the interview, and knows that I would absolutely die if I was able to hear it (I have NEVER IN MY LIFE heard the hip on anything other than my iPod, laptop, Men With Brooms, and Jumper)
my friend decides to call us so he could tell me about what he was listening to and then hear me scream at him on the other end of the line because my life is horrible and the hip are never on the radio when I'm listening to it. He had no service where he was driving. Just my luck. This is the second time that a friend has heard the hip on the radio when I wasn't there. At this rate, I will never hear the hip on the radio. :nooooo :nooooo :nooooo :nooooo :nooooo

It's just like listening to them on your iPod, only imagine the only songs you had in your playlist were NOIS, Little Bones and Poets (if you're lucky).

the song they play doesn't matter to me 
it's the experience of hearing them "live" so to speak on something or somewhere other than what I have control of.

I especially enjoyed Gord's comment about not knowing who "that guy" was that put out Coke Machine Glow, and that he'd like to meet him. I remember thinking back in 2001 that it was an odd move for Gord, making such a departure from the Hip to do this project. I went back and read the whole book a few weeks ago, and it made me realize how much I, myself, have changed in the last 8 years. I found that certain poems meant more to me than they did in 2001, and some of them that hit hard in 2001 did nothing for me, reading them now. Has this happened with anyone else?

I'm actually about to re-read Coke Machine Glow (as soon as I can find it). I had thought about this last week on the drive to Boston while thinking a bit about what the band means to me and how they've shaped my life, not only as a fan of rock and roll, but in a much grander scheme of things.
Some days I want to meet the kid I was in 2001, just to say hi. Sometimes I'm sure I'd give him a sock in the jaw. Others, he'd probably (literally) beat me to the punch.
