Speaking of jam bands, I can't wait for the multi-day campout the Hip are going to put on (a la Phish and Coventry) when they finally do call it quits. I'm not pulling for an end to the Hip, mind you, but it will come someday. And I just hope they go out with a bang: playing outdoors next to some beautiful lake for hours and covering just about every song they've ever written, making us forget we ever griped about setlists.

I saw the Hip three times on this tour, and I got three completely different shows. That's good enough for me. Like Sean pointed out, some of the recent setlists have been incredible.

Having seen the Dead 50+ times I can tell you that fans used to bitch about them as well. It' insane. I mean if they came out and played WC in it's entirety someone would bitch. The Dead were the same in a way, they have so many songs to pick from.
Example. I am a huge Rush fan, but if you go see them one night, and then see them a month later...you will see the same show, front to back. That is not a dig at Rush, but it is the reality.
The way I see it, if the guys are having fun, so am I. Wow, it is actually Thursday, which means today I am seeing the Hip, 7-th row in the Cuse'. My wife made the comment that Gord could sing "Mary Had A Little Lamb", and I would look at her and say, deep, listen to how he sung that...LOL. Back to my point, the set lists are what they are. Most of you here have seen the Hip far more that the "average" fan. While I am far from an average fan, I have not seen them 50-100 times.

I will be sure to report on the Cuse show for those are interested.
One more thing on the original topic that might make some sense. I recall The Dead playing "Throwin' Stones" one night, and then played it again two nights later. Many 'Head' were like that is lame, etc...but, if you listen to the tapes, they worked on some different things, or did not like the version from the previous show, whatever....Boys deserve a rest....cannot wait to share in one of the last of this year....

the fan base is getting a little spoiled I say..
try following U2 or the Who for a while and see what lack of variety they bring to each show... yet no one complains (myself included)..
The Hip will be going into a long hibernation now and these some donkeys will be complaining about the lack of any "tour dates"..
Some people will never be satisfied...
