whats with the recent setlists? geez, last few shows no cover (ok its a COVER i can understand), but the same old songs over and over again? i thought the boys had put this past them
dont get me wrong its still great to see them but it looks like a greatist hits tour with 1 or 2 gems thrown in.
You are not kidding. These shows are becoming more and more scripted including Gord's "rants". New Orleans and NYC were near carbon copy performances. Time to take a break for my I guess.
I wouldn't call 'Put It Off', 'Eldorado', 'The Dark Canuck', 'Chagrin Falls', and 'Opiated' standard by any means... (they've also played Lake Fever again recently...which isn't exactly a live staple anymore either).
Also, in fairness to the boys...they have been touring for over a year in support of this album, I think I might grow a little tired of sound-checking old songs night after night.
And its one thing to read 'Courage' on the sets and think, "oh, Courage again." When you're actually there and it starts, I tend to think "oh, kickass.. Courage!".
Also, I don't think the people who post here are the Hip's target audience to satisfy during a show.
I've seen nine shows and have only seen Fireworks once.
I know many people who would give their left nut to see Fiddler's Green.
Escape is showing up more than regularly, and how can you complain about that?
Nine shows, and I've also only seen Locked once...
So they've played two or three similar shows... so what? I bet the shows still kicked ass.
And those songs I mentioned above were all played at The Hip's last show,
so that is about as 'recent' as I can get. I would love to see a show like the one they put on in Boston.
There's only a handful of more shows this tour, so this could be last time you see many of these World Container songs played live...
Lets see how many songs from their last album have carried over to be a guarentee on setlists...none.
We get the odd 'Gus', and thats it.
Enjoy these World Container songs for the time being, and enjoy the overall setlists for the time being. Then again, that's just my opinion.
I agree that there does seem to be a lot of the same songs showing up on the tour this round, and I suppose it could get tiring to hear some of the same songs if you've travelled to a bunch of shows this tour and have seen the Hip 20 or 30+ times in the past like it seems many have here.
The New Orleans show a few weeks ago was only my second, and yeah, there were a few songs played that aren't exactly my favorites and I would have loved to have heard a cover there, or one of my favorite songs as well. But in my opinion, it was still an awesome show, and frankly I was just glad to be there, to be able to experience them doing their thing.
Maybe my feelings will change over time, but for me, it's not just about the songs, but being able to experience the energy of the band and the audience and just being able to enjoy the moment for what it's worth. It seems like many people focus more on the actual setlist and are disappointed if this is played or that isn't played....
I agree with Sean...I love hearing WC stuff like "Ocean" and "Drop Off" live. Who knows when it will come up in the future?
The hip could play twinkle twinkle little star every concert and i wouldn't care lol. As long as it sounded good and made me glad i was there watching it. Which every hip show does for me.
Well put Sean, I couldnt agree with you more. In a couple of years you will probably think back and be glad you were able to experience some of these shows because with the way The Hip switch up their setlists from tour to tour I highly doubt you will get another chance to hear some of these songs.

fully agree with Sean ... these days i find myself killing to hear some IBE or IVL tracks live, ones that I was "tired" of hearing when they were doing those tours... and you gotta love the gems they've been playing recently and even more so the gems they've busted out over the last year... I've seen some ridiculous shows... Psyched for Vermont, its going to be the milestone 25th show for me, FUCK YEAH!!!
I'm going to Rochester for my eighth show and there's only a couple songs on the recent sets that I think will be either all new for me or I haven't heard since about 2000 or so.
One thing I like is that I tend to go to each show with someone different. As such there's almost a bit of a new experience myself. I went with a buddy who was at his first show in Cleveland back in April and he commented to me about being wowed by the energy of the Fireworks performance, only for Hundredth Meridian to kick in and me to say, "you ain't seen nothing yet!!"
Plus, I definitely have to agree- I know I'll be cheering when NOIS or Courage start up. Plus who knows, maybe they'll toss something random in. I'm still pumped, that's for sure.
Oh to be in a position to be able to moan about hearing the same songs over again...
If you guys are starting to get Hip fatigue just compare their set lists and how mcuh they vary to a band like The Rolling Stones... or indeed most any other band you care to think of, there aren't many bands who play as regularly as The Hip do and vary their sets as much, not these days anyway...

Thats quite a list! If you count all the covers, they've played probably around 125 songs total this tour. Other than Pearl Jam, I cant think of another band that does that many different songs in a single tour!
I agree that this second run of shows this tour has been disappointing as far as set lists go. The performances themselves have still been great. I went to 5 shows April - July, and every one had gems/ great change ups from night to night. This second run of shows (went to 2) has been very blah/ "the hits". I defiantly felt it at the Philly show.
At the same time, I had a great time and enjoyed the marvelous performances by the band. I just personally prefer the variety that they were showing during the earlier part of their tour.
yes but i think the issue is that on a 19 song set list it feels like they play the same 15 songs every night with the same introduction and throw in the odd rare tune,
Even fidler doesnt feel like a gem anymore now that they are playing it every night
seeing the percentage of how often they play those songs would be interesting
I am not putting them down, but I have seen about 4 shows this year and all of them were pretty much the same. I did have a great time and like them, but I do agree they should mix it up a bit.
I am not putting them down I am just being critical! They were great last Tuesday!
From an outsider's perspective (Me) it sure looks bland...But...Have we ever considered the fact that Gord and Gord get together before the gig and say something like "Damn...That set really felt great last night! Let's rock that groove again!"
