Viva Las Vegas - Billy - 10-03-2006

So I'm off to Vegas at the end of Nov. for a 4 day AutoCAD conference and I'm pretty stoked about it. About 2 months ago I saw this conference online and casually mentioned it to my boss. She said what's in it for them (my employer), so I did some homework and put together a presentation. They were impressed so it went to the next level which was a directors meeting. The directors all unanimously agreed to it, so the last hurdle was getting the executive director to sign off on it. I found out about a week ago that he approved myself and my co-worker to both go. It's at the Venetian hotel which I have discovered is one of, if not the best hotel in Vegas. I've never been there as an adult, so this should be a pretty good time/shit-show.

I'm not wanting to gloat here, just share my excitement. A few years ago I had some friends who went to Vegas with their company as a team building experience and since then I have been wishing I could work somewhere that would send me to something like that.

I was in Vegas last year for a friend's wedding. I'm not much of a gambler, so I was pretty much just there for the drunken debauchery. Needless to say, good times were had by all. That town is ridiculously fun. Have a great time!

Depends on where you go. We went to one bar at the Bellagio and it was $7/beer (I think we left after one drink), but you'll find the prices vary somewhat from place to place. Some bars/casinos are cheaper than others. I was drinking Coronas most of the time, but for the life of me I can't remember how much I was paying for them. The fun thing about Vegas is that you can walk up and down the Strip with open alcohol, and nobody gives a crap.

There are plenty of deals to be had.
Some bars offer $1.00 beer and $1.00 Margaritas.
And of course - if you are at a slot machine, table, or video poker at the bar - you drink for free.

I would recommend seeing a Cirque du Soliel show...i saw Mystique, which was incredible!

• Fountain and Eiffel Tower

VENETIAN (MUST SEE)

These are just suggestions of things to see if you’re not already pissed drunk spending all your money at some casino cursing the day you ever arrived in Las Vegas.


Night 1:

RIO

• Mardi Gras show (free- a MUST SEE). My Uncle couldn’t stress seeing this enough.
• After the Mardi Gras festivities, go upstairs to the VOODOO LOUNGE. There is a $10 cover charge, but it’s an outside bar overlooking Vegas 30 or 40 stories above the strip. He also couldn’t stress this enough as well. - i loved this bar!!

Freemont Street

• Also known as the “Freemont Experience” (a must see- free)
• Located on Freemont Street, right by the Golden Nugget Hotel.

Night 2:

Treasure Island

• Boat show (free)

Mirage

• Volcano show (free)

Bellagio

• Fountain Show (free)


BEST DINNER BUFFETS

• Paris $25 p.p- apparently it is beyond belief
• Bellagio also $25 p.p

Depending on how much "down time" you have, actually walk through the hotels. Each one has a different theme and are pretty cool. In the Venetian the actually have a gondella ride through it. (but w/a male?? co-worker...not so good Tongue ) They all have different "shows" during the day that are free. ((((check out Treasure Islands -TI.....if your not opposed to hot ladies of course))). If you want to gambole at the tables try off the strip. The table buy-ins are cheaper and they make better drinks. It's not cheap, everythings costs, but you'll have a killer time.
And watch out for the pamphlet slapping mexicans on the strip..... you'll now what I'm mean when your there. (not racial for anyone uptight out there, if you've been you'll know what it means)

Here's my Tip for free booze. Prowl the casino's until you see a waitress. Sit at a slot, throw in a buck, order drink. play slowly, tip waitress a dollar and spin down your dollar.

Ok, some would say it's not exactly free (my wife) but it's a system that works for me. Vegas is funny, everything is either free(see above) or $5 or more a drink(classy places can be up to $20)

Been to Vegas quite a bit, for the golf and cheap flight, more than anything. The casino's are something you need to see, as well as the Bellagio it's a nice place. Vegas offers a lot of eye candy.

Going to Vegas last summer with a friend and no hotel reservations was the greatest time of my life. We were winging every minute of the vacation with no idea where we were going to wind up each night. Until we got to Vegas, we didn't even know if we were going to make it all the way there. I don't think it's possible to have a bad time there.

Let me know how Bouchon is, I've been to French Laundry in California and it was amazing.
Thomas Keller is probably the greatest chef in the world today.
