If The Hip Were A Hockey Line - Hugh23 - 10-15-2004
I am at home in Livonia, Michigan (a Detroit suburb) getting ready to make the 4 hour drive west to Chicago via I-94 from Detroit Rock City. I know that Lance (our hero) is enjoying seeing The Hip at this moment. I will be doing the same after 1 more sleep.
There are 5 members of The Hip, a hockey line. If you were to equate each member of The Hip with a player in the NHL, who would you pick? Here are my choices. I'd like to hear from other hockey fans and those who are not, what there choices would be.
Gord D. - Wayne Gertzky/New School Gordie Howe/Old School
Robbie - V. Lecalvier (spelling?)
Paul - Chris Draper
Gord S. - Lindstrom or Chris Pronger
Johnny - Lindstrom or Chris Pronger Or Patrick Roy/ Hasek
(Defense) / (Goalie)
I hope you notice my Red Wing slant. By the way, there will be no hockey this year!!

Gord Downie-Patrick Roy (eccentric genius)
Robbie Baker-GuyLaFleur (that hair flowing down the right wing, beautiful)
Johnny Fay-Scott Stevens (every team needs a heavy hitter)
Gord Sinclair-Kirk Muller (good Kingston boy!)
Paul Langlois-Mike Bossy (quiet but deadly)

Downie- Maurice Richard: Graceful, quiet, subdued, a born leader off the ice. Inspriring, all energy and intensity on the ice.
Sinclair- Mark Messier: gets his fair share of credit, but still always seen as the number 2 man. However, like the Moose, much of the Hip's success is owed to him.
Langlois- Petr Forseberg. Always able to get the job done, a real team player. Give him a solid centreman, and he's HOF material.
Baker- Jerome Iginla: Very talented, very friendly, just seems to be enjoying his way through life, living it the way he always wished he could.
Fay- Lionel Conacher: Canada's athlete of the half century in 1950. A pro at football, baseball, hockey and wrestling. He was multi-talented, just like Johnny. Always reliable.

Torontocentrism! Here's my all leafs version, 80's-present day...
Gord Downie- Wendel Clark...The unquestioned leader...Saddled with injury, or voice issues as his career went on as the case may be, but comes up largest in the largest situations.
Bobby Baker-Ed Olczyk...consistand performer, sometimes overlooked because he team was ass (this is where he and Baker differ) but could be counted on for giving 110%....also my childhood hero.
Paul Langois- Mike Gartner...Once again, overshadowed by Gilmour and Andreychuk, could always be counted on for a clutch goal, or backup vocals, when needed
Gord Sinclair- Doug Gilmour...The glue.
Johnny Fay- Bryan McCabe...a bit edgy, out of control, but you can't question the effort, unless of course he throws up a -5 in game 5 of the eastern conference semis.
i know there's only one defenceman, but wendel was drafted as a D-man, so he'll do what it takes to help the team win.
